“Mixed feelings about this hotel”

Jinglun Hotel

I was at the Beijing Jinglun Hotel a couple of weeks ago. Despite some very nice things about this hotel, I still have mixed feelings about it. Let me start with the good. The best thing about this Hotel is the location. Since it is located near the center of the City (close to the Tiananmen, Forbidden City), several of the attractions in Beijing are readily accessible. It is about 5-10 minutes walk from the Silk Market and is about 5 mins walk from the China World Hotel. If you're up to it, you can probably briskly walk to the Forbidden city in less than 30 mins. The locations is very ideal. You'll appreciate the location especially when you're taking a taxi and the driver immediately knows where your hotel is.

When I checked-in, I requested for a new room (as was advised in this
site previously). I was informed by the front desk staff that all the
rooms have now been completely renovated. So there is no need to specify that you want a newly-renovated room. The rooms and hotel facilities are quite good.

The breakfast buffet was about average. After two days of eating breakfast there, however, I didn't feel like eating the same food again. So I just skipped it.

The thing that really turned me off with this hotel was the language skills of the staff. Most of the front desk staff could hardly understand english. Same with the concierge. I was making a very simple request with the front desk (I wanted to leave a message for someone who was coming in that day), but it took me about 15 mins to explain it to them. I wasn't even sure if they actually understood me. Also, after my first night, I informed the front desk that the aircondining in my room wasn't working properly. It wasn't as cold as I wanted it to be (the controls seemed to be not working). The lady at the desk told me that, since it was still Spring, the hotel airconditioning was not yet made to fully function. She suggested that I open the windows the following night. Since my room was right in front of the main street, I did not think that that was an option (dusty and noisy). For the price I was paying for my room, I expected
the room aircon controls to be at least fully functional (even if it was still Spring).

Despite the very ideal location and the generally nice rooms and facilities, I am not sure if I will stay in this Hotel again. Of course, if location was really the primary consideration, then I may reconsider -- but only after checking out the other hotels in the area.

I really hope that Jinglun will be able to hire more well-trained staff and have better hotel policies in the future.

“Nice Hotel but only if you stay at certain floors”

I spent 3 nights at this hotel at the end of October. Overall the experience was okay. My room was clean and adequate. However, if you are expecting a "renovated modern" room, then you would need some good luck. Several colleagues of mine checked in at the same time but they were put at the "better" floors (e.g. 7th, 9th and 12th) so they all had FABULOUS rooms with very chic furnishings and LCD flat TVs in room. Myself, on the other hand, was placed in a somewhat outdated looking room on the 10th floor even I paid the same price! The bottom line is, this hotel is NOT renovated inside out like it has claimed - only rooms at certain floors! So calling the hotel "totally renovated" is misleading. The hotel worths the 4-star rating but definitely not the 5-star rating that it was recently awarded.

Besides that, I have to agree the service was plesant. Staff was curteous and efficient. Breakfast was good with above average selection. Considering its prime location (right next to the World Trade Center) and proximity to all major attractions, this hotel is a good choice. Will consider to return.....if they put me at one of those "renovated" floors next time.

“Newly renovated, great hotel great value”

Being wary of most "local" Chinese hotels, I was a bit hesitant when booking my hotel. On their website, I noticed that they had just completed renovations (Aug 18) and are run by the Nikko hotel, which made me feel better.

Hotel exterior is standard China hotel concrete block, but it is in a very convenient location to the BJ CBD and about a 10-15 minute ride (not during rush hour) to the Forbidden City. Interior is very modern and spanking new, and hotel hallways and rooms have the new carpet smell. Good sized room, clean, with small bathroom. Service very friendly, particularly the bell staff and valets.

We had breakfast in their coffee shop and it was passable, though not cheap (RMB 122 for buffet). A la carte selections were limited. Staff tried hard.

Front desk check-in was good but check-out was a bit slow with the cashier answering phones while processing my card. This is pretty standard in China as they still haven't yet mastered the concept of concentrating on your customer.

I would defintely stay here again and recommend it. This comes from someone who is a bit high maintenance when it comes to hotels and have stayed at numerous 5 star properties around the world.

“Good Value”

We chose the Jinglun as a package deal with our airline tickets through NWA. Our airline tickets actually got cheaper by booking four nights at the Jinglun - so we were somewhat pessimistic about the hotel experience we would have. We were quite pleased. The rooms were modern, western-style rooms. Breakfast was included. The buffet was good, but after eating at it for four mornings, we were not sorry to give it up. It is not worth the price if it is not included in the price of your room. We speak only English, but the staff was well prepared with English speaking folks at the front desk and door. The front desk was also very willing to help make travel arrangements (e.g., to the Great Wall, etc.). Their prices, however, tower over what you would need to pay a taxi driver for the same trip! It is a convenient location for both taxi trips and the subway (station about 1 1/2 blocks away). Also, there is a grocery store an easy 2 block walk away if you need extra water, food, drink, etc. After our four nights in the Jinglun, we moved to the Kerry Centre Hotel, which is a far more expensive hotel. However, fancy furniture notwithstanding, the Jinglun actually matched up with the Kerry Centre in terms of service, location, and amenities. Long story short, if you can get the Jinglun at a good price, you will get a good hotel for a good deal.

“Would stay again.”

My husband and self stayed at the Jinglun Hotel in August 2004. We found the rooms of a reasonable size and clean. The staff were very polite and helpful. There was a variety of western and chinese food available for breakfast. One can walk to Tiannamen Square, but it is a fair walk. However, there is a government store and market on the on the way and also a large shopping centre. The hotel is central and has a small area for booking day tours. We would stay again
