We chose this Hotel based mainly on its location & reviews on tripadvisor & were pleased to find out it was an excellent Hotel, especially for the price. We booked our stay through the Hotel's website & went for the advanced purchase rate which is fully pre-paid with no refunds allowed. It was such a big discount & we had travel Insurance so decided to go for it. On arrival we were asked if we wanted to upgrade to a club level room & the upgrade was not a big amount so we decided to do it. We were not disappointed to have the use of the club lounge at our disposal & the ease of being able to go just along the corridor for breakfast. Both the breakfast & the nibbles that went with the happy hour drinks in the evening were absolutely first rate. When we checked out we did this at the desk on our floor which again was just so easy.
We were able to change US$500 at the reception desk into RMB so we didn't have to bother with finding a bank or even an auto teller machine
One thing that stood out about this Hotel is that it was a way better Hotel than the tariff suggested and as such excellent value for money.
The Hotel has been completely re-furbished & the club level room we had was large & comfortable. The style of it was not as modern as the regular rooms but the space advantage was appreciated. There is an entry area to the room with a writing desk complete with broadband internet connection & stationery supplies, even pencils, a ruler & an eraser. Adjacent to this area is a large bar area. The bathroom, once again is large with a full size bath & seperate shower. A comprehensive range of amenities are supplied inc. bathrobes & slippers. The bed is very comfortable & the rooms can be completely darkened if you need to sleep during the day.
In all areas of the Hotel it is absolutely spotless.
The A/C in the room is excellent, it was stinking hot in Beijing when we were there & you could turn the room into a refrigerator if you so desired
We dined in the two Restaurants and found them both very good. In the Chinese Restaurant we had the suckling piglet & it was really something, served with the crackling wonderfully crunchy and cut into segments so you could pick each segment complete with its own piece of crackling up with your chopstick. Not too good for the cholesterol levels I'm sure but OK for a special treat!
The location at one end of the Wangfujing Dajie is as good as you will get in Beijing. This is the major pedestrian shopping precinct in Beijing & has a lot of the international stores as well as some local ones. Just off this street & only 10 minutes from the Hotel is one of the famous Quanjude Roast Duck Restaurants which is unparallelled for Peking Duck. Only 5 minutes from the Hotel in the same direction is the Donghuamen Night Market. This is a must see, very colourful & it is all there for you to eat!
To walk to Tiananmen Square & the Forbidden City from here is only 30 minutes & there are several ways you can go including through some gardens & an Historic Hutong (this will take a bit longer)
Negatives are few & minor - an fussy room key card which sometimes had to be fiddled with a bit to get into the room & a self reclining chair at the room desk & that is it!!!!
It is around 1 hour from the fab new Beijing Airport to the Hotel. I can't recommend this Hotel highly enough & if you stay here I am sure you will not be disappointed. I have posted some photos taken around Beijing to flickr & you are welcome to have a look at them on www.flickr.com/photos/kiwiexplorer - Thanks for reading my review!
