The first hotel we stayed in on our (first) trip to China. The hotel staff spoke little English but they were always willing to spend time understanding. On arrival checked in and decided to take a cup of tea in the foyer bar - probably the most expensive cup of tea we have drunk in our lives. Not realising the size of Beijing decided to walk to Tiannamen Square, arriving two hours later! Although the hotel is a little way out of the centre it did not cause a problem as transportation is so cheap. Taxis were reliable although we found it sensible to get the hotel staff to write our destination in Chinese to show the driver. With the exception of breakfast we did not eat in the hotel. There are a number of restaurants within walking distance of the hotel and although we ate in some that spoke no English we were always warmly welcomed and had excellent service. Turning right out of the hotel was a small locals bar serving cheap beer with again a warm welcome. Definitely recommend the city and the hotel.
