I visited Hong Kong in March 2008 and my wife and I stayed at the Renaissance Harbour View Hotel. I booked the hotel for three nights via the internet (www.asiarooms.com) and paid £110 per night inclusive of breakfast. We arrived at Hong Kong Airport around 6.30am and after taking the fast train into Hong Kong Central station and transferring to the free hotel shuttle, we arrived at the hotel around 9.30am. In other hotels I have visited, should you arrive as early as this you would be told to return at about 1pm. Not so the case with this hotel, as I was informed that our room was not ready but if I returned in about one hour’s time then one would be made ready for us. We duly returned at the suggested time and the pass cards were handed to us for room 1804. The room overlooked the garden as the harbour view rooms are more expensive and I can't see the point of paying for a view when you only look out of the window a few times during your stay!
The hotel is ideally located on Hong Kong Island and is only a short walking distant from the Wanchai Star Ferry Terminal. It is only a relatively short distance from the Wanchai MTR station that will allow the traveller to take advantage of the excellent rail links and low-cost travel around Hong Kong.
I have stayed at this hotel three times now and would most certainly recommend it to any first-time traveller to Hong Kong, I would also recommend it to any traveller returning to Hong Kong who has been disappointed with their accommodation on previous visits.
I can not praise the hotel personnel highly enough as they are always friendly, professional and courteous in all their actions.
The hotel rooms are well appointed and the breakfast is a joy to feast on as there is a wide variety to cater for Europeans and Asians. I never took advantage of the swimming pool and health club that is shared with the Grand Hyatt, however, I did walk around all the facilities with my wife and everything looked in pristine condition.
I hope I have another opportunity to visit Hong Kong and the Renaissance Harbour View will by first choice of hotel even though there have been many more first-class hotels constructed there since my previous visit in 2005.
