“Used condom delights.”

Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong

Mar 21, 2008

The Cosmopolitan was recommended to us by a friend who grew up in Hong Kong and felt that it was a good central point for us to see Hong Kong in 3 days.
She was right!- We had some of the tourist highlights including the peak tram and the parks close by and good access to public transport (which we found to be very reliable).
The first thing to point out is that space is very much at a premium here, and as such, the family room we had booked would have comfortably slept a small family of woodlouse.
Having returned to reception to complain that the room would simply not fit a family of 4 in, I was told to return to the room and wait with my husband whilest she tried to find something with an extra 10 inches!
I found my husband in a state of mild shock as during my absence my 4 year old daughter had found a used condom on the floor in our room.
She had been scrabbling around on the floor behind the full length curtains and emerged proudly holding it aloft.
The cleaner who was on the landing close by was very upset-but not as upset as us!!
I returned to reception and was quite alarmed by the receptionists lack of horror/response.
However, in her defence, she obviously made a phone call to the manager, as within 5 minutes we were being escorted to a suite.
We received a large bowl of fruit and phone calls from the manager, the general manager, the managers manager and the general managers managers big brother.
Overall the stay turned out to be enjoyable, mainly because of my daughters actions and us being moved out of the shoe box.
The hotel is in a good spot and although the cleanliness is below par, on the whole it turned out to be what we needed for our flying visit.
If you happen to book a suite, they are huge, comfortable, have asmall kitchen and great views of the Happy Valley race course.(Race meetings are on a wed night but we couldn't go as no under 18's are allowed.)
Top tip for a good day out and to see something a bit different of Hong Kong Island, is a trip to Stanley market on a double decker bus.

“Quite liked the cosmo, but tough luck finding a cab!”

Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong

4 of 5 stars
Gurgaon, India

Didnt expect much from the Cosmopolitan, but was plesantly surprised with the hotel. I think its a 3.5 star property and the service was efficient and quick. I typically ask for something from housekeeping and see how long it takes and in both occassions, I got what I wanted within 5 minutes!
So overall its a good choice if one is looking for good value for money and one wants to stay on the island rather than Kowloon.
However, if you are in HK for work and need to get to the office in the morning, you need to have asked the hotel staff to organize a cab for you well in advance. I stood on the curb for a good half hour before I could flag down a cab. So be prepared!
Otherwise, its a good choice. Enjoy Hong Kong!

“Amazing views”

Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong

Speedy and effecient check in. Excellent rooms, kingsize comfortable beds and superb bathrooms. Plenty of complementary toilettries, water, tea and coffee facilities. Stayed on the 22nd floor, amazing views over the race course. Hotel was spotless, buffet breakfast with wide variety of Chinese and European foods was delicious and the restaurant staff were very helpful with menu choices for dinner. Great location for all the sites.

“Not a tourist hotel”

Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong

3 of 5 stars
British Columbia, Canada
Feb 27, 2008

We had booked a standard room at the hotel and were disappointed from the moment we walked into the hotel. The first thing we were asked is would we like to upgrade to a larger superior room which included breakfast, had a view and from reading other reviews, lots of extras. Our room was basic and tiny with frosted windows (found out later they overlooked the graveyard), it felt like a prison cell. After one night we asked for a room with a view and were moved to a corner room with a view of the graveyard which was no problem. Breakfast was expensive so we opted for the local spots which worked well. The air conditioning was extremely noisy, there was no bar (apart from two stools and a cubbyhole in the reception area) or lounge or any other facilities that we could see for relaxation. The location was not too bad within easy walking distance of Times Square and the MTR, but it was frustrating that nothing opened up until 11.00 a.m. After 12 hours of walking around Hong Kong we would have appreciated at least a chair to sit in. Obviously it pays to take the upgrade.

I would say that this hotel is perfect for the business person who only needs a place to sleep but I would most definitely try somewhere else next time.

“Great experience”

Cosmopolitan Hotel Hong Kong

5 of 5 stars

First of all, I would recommend upgrading to a deluxe view room. It's well worth the extra fee. As other reviewers have said, some rooms face the cemetary behind the hotel (though you can't see it from your room because the windows are frosted), which may be disconcerting for some. We were initially booked in a standard room, but quickly upgraded to the deluxe view room which faced the Happy Valley Racecourse (FYI- you can clearly see the horse races held every Wednesday evening from your room). The hotel staff was very friendly and the rooms very clean. Location-wise, it is a bit away from the action, but the hotel does provide regular shuttle bus services to the more prominent business/tourist sites, like Causeway Bay and the Convention Centre. There are also buses and trams located right outside the hotel. The closest subway station is about an 8-minute walk, but the shuttle bus can take you there in 5mins. My experience was overall positive, and I would definitely stay again.
