“Design Over Function”

Jia Boutique Hotel

This is a classic case of too much focus on how the place looks and not enough on what customers actually want. And don't misunderstand, I am in my 30's, love design and usually like individual hotels. The issues: -

1) no hot water in the bathroom sink for 3 days
2) no room service but a poor delivery service with only 5 snacks (and no vegetarian) after 10.30pm. I found myself walking eth streets looking for a take-away at 10.45pm - the hotel wouldn't send out for me.
3) a free but very limited breakfast on a shared table that you can't get your legs under. Or you can sit in reception on a plastic stool with a plate on your lap.
4) A restaurant that closes early if its not busy and won't let you take food to your room.
5) A TV/DVD music system that is super complicated to work (you change the tv channel with the dvd controller and the volume with a different control)
6) Freezing cold if there in winter

This place shoudl be billed as serviced apartments but not a fully functioning hotel.

Stay here to party for a few days but NOT if you're on business and you expect things to work.

Style over substence.

“Chic and clean but noisy”

Jia Boutique Hotel

JIA is beautifully designed and had some really nice touches. The studio suites are small but I'm a solo traveller so it suited me. If you're a couple or a family, go for a larger size apartment or suite.

The interiors are nice, diaphanous net to the bedroom area, really comfortable bed, wardrobes that light up when you open them, marble lined bathroom. And the house service was brilliant, ecah day I returned to an immaculately clean room.

The reception staff were friendly and helpful too. They gave me the tip I was looking for - I'm a fanatical runner and Victoria Park is nearby but go early! Hong Kong gets busy as soon as it gets remotely light and the park becomes full - there is a small 600m track but if you want a good hours burn, do 8 circuits round the park itself but be careful of the bumping into the tai chi crowds.

Back to JIA and location. I'm not a big foodie so I ate in my room but it's well located for foodie types who want to hang out at traditional/local food places in Jardine's Bazzaar or go more central. The best supermarket is in Times Square on the basement level (go down the circular staircase in the main department store). Transport is the MTR and there's a station 2 mins walk away and negotiating it all is so easy - get yourself an Octopus card from the station and you're away!

My only complaints are that there is NO SOUNDPROOFING inside or out so if my neighbour was on the phone near my wall, I could hear him. The traffic noise is constant pretty much too and I could smell all the various cooking smells from the street outside. It got a bit chilly too but there is a heater and I am someone prone to feeling the slightest cold.

I agree if you're a first timer and want a bit of pampering, then perhaps it's not for you but if you want to run around and explore and have a nice clean comfortable base to come back to (oh, with flat screen TV with pretty much all the main cable channels), then JIA is perfect

“Brilliant hotel experience”

Jia Boutique Hotel

Jan 14, 2008

Just returned from our honeymoon overseas, we laid over in Hong Kong to break the long journey back to Sydney. Having expreienced the regular Hong Kong hotels in the past, JIA hotel was a divine experience in comparison. Classy, quality and aesthetic touches abound and made it difficult to leave the room.

The staff were friendly and welcoming, and the upgrade to the 1 bedroom suite was a wonderful surprise. The complimantary cocktail on arrival and daily afternoon tea, cake and wine was also a bonus.

It's location near Times Square was more convinient than expected.

For a brilliant hotel experience in Hong Kong don't go past the JIA.. We'll be going back!

It's not a hotel . It's an apartment building with noisy small rooms and no heating. The interior was ok and the service was satisfactory

“Very noisy ... busy streets ...single pane windows”

Jia Boutique Hotel

Dec 20, 2007

What the JIA spent on design it certainly did not spend on construction. This is a very noisy hotel. All the street noise is transmitted through single pane windows and through air shaft in the bath. We have had to change rooms after being told it wouldn't make a difference. It didn't. Free Internet and breakfast certainly a plus but not worth a good nights sleep. Staff is very helpful.
