I travel alot , almost every week, and it's unusual that i'm compelled to write a review. However, I recently stayed at the Regency for a long weekend and my experience is worth sharing.
My room was ok, maybe a bit shabby and shared with a few bugs, but that's expected in a beach hotel. The staff on check-in and near the beach were very pleasant. The food and drink were fine.
Upon checkout it the whole experience turned debacle. I was on an early flight and was surprise that there were about 30 of us lined up to check out that morning around 5:30 a.m. The delay was caused purely by hotel policy. Before the staff would process a bill, they insisted on sending a runner to each room to check the mini-bar. One desk clerk and one runner made for a very long wait. Consequenly, it took an hour for them to process my bill and was nervous about making my flight.
Unfortunately for the Regency the problems continued. Half way between islands, the Regency's ferry boat's engine just died and could not be restarted. We were adrift at sea for about 45 minutes and, because the billing delays before, many of us got to see our flights take off from the deck of the drifting boat.
Eventually, another boat towed us close to shore and we jumped off our boat and onto the deck of another boat over the choppy open water and then onto the beach.
I won't be returning the the Regency.
