This was our first trip to Singapore and the reviews of the IC were very useful and as usual Tripadvisor didn’t fail. The taxi ride from Changi Airport to IC was very short at around 15 mins and was a welcome relief after a long plane journey. The check-in process was not very smooth as it appeared I had made a mistake with my booking. I found the check-in staff very unhelpful but luckily the Guest Relations Manager snatched my booking papers from the check-in staff and sat my wife and I down to speed up the process. I was relieved at how quickly the manager organised our check-in and upgraded us to a Shophouse room even though we had booked an ordinary room using Priority Points.
The Shophouse rooms were in a separate more private part of the hotel. The room was very nicely decorated and had the old colonial feel about them. There wasn’t much of a view from the room but it was very helpful to be only one floor up and there is a discreet staircase near the lobby bar which was far easier to use then the lifts and made us feel more at home. The room had a flat panel TV, wooden floors and was spacious for a city hotel room. The bathroom was quite large and had a separate shower unit. The room came with the usual free water, bathrobes, slippers and a safe.
The IC is more of a business focused hotel rather then leisure which was apparent from the other hotel guests but we didn’t feel unwelcome in our shorts and t-shirts.
The location of the hotel was fantastic as you are in the middle of Bugis Junction. The MRT (subway) was 3 mins walk and is very handy to get to all parts of Singapore. There are plenty of taxi’s about (they always use their meter and work out very cheap). There is a shopping complex next door to the hotel which came in handy for breakfast and late night shopping. There is also a market called Bugis Street market and it is the biggest market in Singapore but it is very touristy. We found the 7-11 nearby handy for late night snacks and drinks. The Raffles hotel is a 10 min walk away and we enjoyed our slings in the Long Bar.
Singapore is so clean, friendly and you are made to feel very safe. We didn’t hesitate walking around at 3am which you can’t do in most Asian cities.
I would recommend the following…
Day Time
River cruise
Orchard road shopping
Sentosa island
Little India (mainly for the food)
Raffles Hotel (Long Bar)
Night Time
Night Safari
Clarke Quay
Chinatown
Boat Quay
