We arrived in Pucon in South American winter with our travel guide in hand. The hotel that we had planned to stay in got slammed in Trip Advisor reviews for - of all things - bedbugs. So we wandered around and found this gem of a hotel. It's a block from Lake Villarica with its black volcanic sand. The staff was welcoming and the manager spoke excellent English. Our double was cold at first, as we were the only guests that night, but quickly warmed up. The best thing, though, was the drop-dead gorgeous view of Volcan Villarica, smoking through the clouds in the near distance. It was constantly changing - sometime obscured by clouds, sometimes clear as crystal, sometimes lit by the rising or setting sun. The manager says that they book solid in the summer, but for us, the winter visit was perfect.
