“A perfect combination of activity and peace”

Yan Kee Way Lodge Hotel

Mar 18, 2008

As a first timer to Chile my friend and I wanted to stay at a place that would plan our stay from start to finish - and this is exactly what the lodge did. We were picked up at the airport for the hour or so drive to the lodge. The grounds are simple, clean with a spectacular view of Orsono Volcano. Our room was clean and comfortable and charmingly rustic.....but the highlight of the stay was not the room but instead the activities, food, service and surroundings.

We did not fish but had a planned activity each day. Horseback riding, biking, rafting and hiking. The hike was great followed by a home cooked meal at a ranch - a highlight of my trip to be welcomed into a home of a Chilean. The rafting had amazing views, good rapids with emerald green water but huge nasty black bugs (apparently only there for 3 weeks a year-don't go when they are there-they don't bite but really do take away from the experience). Each activity was with a different guide yet I always felt safe and taken care of.

The food was wonderful and I enjoyed playing cards with people as we had a cocktail before going into the main dining room. We stayed for four nights and if I were to stay longer I would want to venture out for dinner to get a change as the menu does not change. However, I don't eat fish or meat so my choices were more selective. While we were there there was a family of 10, a few couples, a couple of guys traveling together (and us 2 single girls). Basically, a bit of everything.

I loved soaking in the wood burning hot tub and sauna while looking at the volcano- very peaceful. If your looking to be "taken care of" and paying a bit for that.......and if you want some peace with the option of meeting new people also at the lodge, this would be a great choice.

“Glorious volcano and wonderful food”

At first glance, you are entering a rustic lodge with an unmatched view of the Osorno volcano - a Mt. Fuji look-alike. But the rustic exterior, which is charming complete with directions to "Recepcion" and so on by whimsical wood carvings, belies the sophistication of the restaurant and lodge management. A variety of activities may be included in the package and the accompanying staff are outstanding. I requested a special site visit to Monte Verde, the oldest known Native American archaeological site in the Americas, and was accompanied by a knowledgeable and charming young man who clearly new his facts. Another staff member and driver accompanied me to the penguin breeding sites on Chiloe Island and made a point of introducing me to a local restaurant where I ate scrumptious seafood prepared in a traditional local style. And speaking of food, the Lodge literally has the best restaurant around, but beware of the portions. The first night I wasted food because I simply could not eat everything. I ordered soup, salad, and entree, and would have been well-fed on the soup alone. Everything I tasted was exceptional but on subsequent evenings I ordered one item plus dessert (life is short - eat dessert first, or at least always leave room for it). My sole disappointment had nothing to do with the Lodge. I was looking forward to seeing the Southern Cross constellation for the first time, but a nearly-full moon and some cloudy nights precluded me from seeing it. Guess I will just have to return and try again!

“Lots of Fun, even for those who don't fish!”

This lodge is known primarily for fishing but we booked it as a break in an otherwise active vacation, not knowing that we'd be just as active here as we were elsewhere on this trip. First, we're not into fishing and never even considered doing any fishing while we were there, but there is so much offered that can be arranged for you.

We did a zip line excursion which is very, very much worth the money. I don't like heights and didn't think I would enjoy it but it was a tremendous adventure. The guides are very careful to keep you safe at all times. We also did a hike around part of the base of the volcano, which was very interesting. Lots of great scenery. The guide from the hotel for our activities was Ricardo and I can't say enough good things about him.

The restaurant at the Lodge is excellent: the service, the food, and the wine.

Our accommodations were very comfortable, sort of a duplex arrangement with us occupying half of a bungalow. Our accommodation included a large bedroom, a good sized den/living room, a storage room, a sleeping loft, and a bathroom. One of the few complaints that I would have with the Lodge (and this is a minor one) is that the thermostat for our bungalow was kept locked and therefore can't be adjusted without asking the front desk to take care of it. Sort of an odd way to pinch pennies at a luxury resort.

The grounds of the Lodge are very nice with a great view of a snow covered volcano. Art is located throughout the grounds, some whimsical and others more serious.

We were there in March and the weather was perfect but the locals assured us that we were very lucky as it is normally raining that time of year. There were very few guests, I guess due to the time of year.

If you're going be sure to check their website for activities other than fishing as they have a great list of things to do. We wished we had more time there to do some of the other things.

Prior to staying here we had been at the Explora Atacama and after this we were at the Explora Patagonia. The big difference for us was that at the Explora Lodges our package included everything whereas here only the meals and a bottle of wine were included, but I think you can arrange for a completely inclusive package.

I Just returned from the Yan Kee Way Lodge in the lake district 1 hour from the town of Puerto Varas. We stayed at the Yan Kee Way Lodge. This place is incredible. The food wine and activities are unbelieveable. The accomodations are great. I have been around the world and to any area that you want to ask. This place is great. the activities are endless and you can have them included in your price. The guy that owns this is very attentive. They have sooooo much to offer from mountain climbing to fly fishing to rafting to kayaking horseback riding and much more. I would recommend this place to everyone. They pick you up at the airport and deliver you. The great wine is included and along with great food. The scenery is not to be belived looking out at a volcano. words cannot describe this place. if you are in the area go to this place for you will not be dissappointed I assure you. The only thing that is better than the food wine and scenery activities is the employees. All else could go away and these people would make up for it
