“nice location - rooms compact”

Hotel Orly

3 of 5 stars
London UK
Jun 8, 2008

This hotel is in a good location, but the rooms and breakfast area can only be described as 'compact'.If you want to swing a cat, forget it!

There is a cafe connected to the hotel which serves reasonable food, but does not ban smoking. It too is rather cramped, so is akin to eating in an opium den. I couldn't get the smell of smoke out of my clothes for days. Hotel internet relatively expensive ($4 an hour)

“Old style hotel with modern flavor”

The hotel is an old style hotel with modern amenities. The hotel is located 2 blocks away from the Pedro de Valdiva metro stop, which gives you access to Santiago. The service in the hotel is excellent and the English-speaking staff is very helpful in arranging tours of the town or the neighboring wineries.

The room itself has its pluses and minuses. The windows are double paned, which keeps out the street noise at night. However, you can hear noise through the walls and the street traffic in the morning can penetrate the windows – earplugs are strongly recommended. I found the bed a bit too soft and there is no clock inside the room. The bathroom has shampoo, soap, and a hair dryer, and an in-room safe is available (but get the key from the front desk). The hotel does offer a turndown service served with chocolate at night, the rooms are air conditioned, and television selections include BBC, CNN International and US dubbed and subtitled programs.

The best thing I can say about the hotel was the breakfast, which had to be the best served during our South American trip. The breakfast was well prepared and consisted of eggs, cold cuts, fresh juices, cheeses, breads, teas, and coffee. It is served in an atrium room that makes the morning meal an enjoyable experience.

For Santiago, after pricing several hotels, this was one I found within my price range but offering the things I would need most on a vacation. The hotel is located within walking distance of shopping areas and restaurants, and the proximity to the city metro provides access to most any part of the city. The neighborhood is safe, and the Cafetto coffee bar next door is a good place to get a cortado before starting your day.

We stayed at Hotel Orly for 2 nights at the beginning of our trip and then another night at the end of the trip. The location of the hotel is excellent and the staff were superb and fluent in English. As our Spanish is very limited, is was such a relief to be able to communicate effortlessly. We would return to Hotel Orly without hesitation.

We just came back from a two week trip in Chile. We spent the last two nights at the Orly. They were so nice that on the check-out day they let me stay past check-out time due to the fact I had the Flu, at no extra charge. The room was sparkling clean and just recently re-freshed. I would highly recommend them to anyone. The location is also perfectly situated in the middle of everything.

I will have a second go at this review. Did a lovely long one then went to send and maintanance going on so all was lost. Better luck this time.
We booked the Orly from the reviews we read here and it didnt let us down.
A delightful little hotel in a very nice part of Santiago. From the wonderful front desk staff who where so helpful and friendly to our very comfortable room. It was a nice size and well appointed. Our QS bed very comfy too. The hotel had a restaurant attached to it where we dined one night. It was both reasonably priced and a good selection on the menu. The street the hotel is in is lined with other restaurants so the choice is yours on where to go. Musicians stop by and entertain while you eat. Its also just off the main road so is handy to transport as well. Breakfast is included in the price and was very good. We also booked a tour at the hotel and it was good value at $75US pp. Our own private guide and driver for the day. Its a little far to walk to all the sights so this made it very easy for us. We also hired a car and were able to park it in secure parking just across the street for free. My only negative was we were told our private transport from airport to hotel would be $33US but we were actually charged $41, no big deal really but thought I would mention it. I highly recommend this hotel to anyone and would definately stay there again
