We stayed at the Sol Y Mar in October 2007 and had a wonderful experience. Previous reviews we read online had not reflected the newly rebuilt hotel. Rooms were clean, comfortable and refreshing. Their restaurant served a delicious and extensive breakfast, as well as other meals. All rooms overlook the harbor, the restaurant and the pool/hot tub/patio/, where you will see iguanas, sea lions, Julian the one winged pelican they care for, and myriad other birds. The owners and staff went out of their way to make everyone feel at home. Renato and Adi who own and run the hotel truly care that you enjoy not only their hotel, but your entire experience in the Galapagos. They are knowledgeable and well connected to locals who also will go out of their way for you. Whether it is the taxi driver who also volunteers to act as your guide, the captain of the boat which takes you to other islands, the chef and wait staff in their wonderful restaurant or their recommendations about where to go, what to do-- your needs are not only met, but often taken care of before you know about them.

7days/6nights at SolyMar. Researched hotel based options for months prior to laying down the 50% deposit. Exchanged emails with their manager Gloria, she will send you a quote with daily tour breakdown.

Package for my wife & I was appx. $320/day which included daily tours and 3 meals. Meals consisted of fresh seafood and requests.

Enjoyed the hotel based option, SolyMar is a great option if you're not interested in the yachts.

Great Experience! Sea lions, sea iguanas, blue footed boobies, great blue heron, night herons were all seen at pool's edge. Fish market nearby with frigate birds & pelicans. Hotel was refurbished in the last few years and most rooms overlook the bay/pool. A must stay if you go to the islands. Owner very helpful as well.

I spent a wonderful time at this hotel about a week after the completion of the remodeling in December of 2006. The hotel has a spectacular view of the water that includes a nice pool, a bar with varios innovative drinks, hammocks for lounging around, and great deal of animal life that hangs out around the hotel -- i.e. sea lions, iguanas, and various birds.

The best part of the hotel, besides how nice, new, and clean it appeared was the fact that the owners, Renato and Adi treat you as if you are part of their family. Ok, and the food was great as well -- they even accomodate vegetarians :) I highly recommend the hotel.
And, if you are looking for local activities such as diving, hiking, or finding a nice disco - (check out Tsunami), they'll help you out.
