I arrived in Lima as a previous stop for Cuzco in early august. I didn´t expected very much of the city, but was a nice surprise... if you are looking for inka ruins and typical andean landscapes... then you are wrong here. Lima is more a modern city, with perhaps the nicest people in the whole southamerica and a great-great food tradition. Lima has lots to offer, cultural life, art, cafes, museums etc try to take a look to the city before you leave anywhere else in the country.
I stayed in the Flying Dog Hostel. My choice was excellent. Right in the middle of Miraflores, very central for everything, this hostel has great services, a nice atmosphere and english speaking staff. They have everything a young traveler needs, internet acces, towels, common kitchen, tv, book and dvd´s collection, single and double rooms with wc, tpool tables and their own bar just a block away and even a funny "doggiewagon" for the transport. I recommend it!!
