“Great Place”

This is a great hotel in Miraflores. The rooms were clean and the property was beautiful. The location was terrific. You are just a few minutes from a nice grocery store, 5 minutes from the beach and only 10 Soles from downtown Lima.

We stayed on the main level the first two nights and on the second floor the final night when we came back through Lima. One nice feature is that we were able to rent our room until 9:00 pm for one half of the price of the room as our flight didn't depart until 1:30 a.m.

Overall - great place with character.

“Near all the action of Miraflores”

Hostal El Patio

Nov 27, 2007

We only ended up spending one night at Hostal El Patio due to cancelled flights from the US. Throughout this 8 hour period of on-again, off-again travel to Lima, we kept the Hostal appraised of when we may/maynot arrive. We finally managed to get on a flight and when we arrived at midnight, our driver was waiting to whisk us away to Hostal El Patio.

At check in, the staff were really understanding and friendly. When we checked out, they had arranged our driver to return us to the airport and everything, from check-in, to payment, to answering queries to check-out were handled with professionalism. We were also impressed with their prompt email responses from our initial enquiry through to the debacle of trying to get to Lima from the US (they are manned 24/7).

We had the double room at the top of the stairs and found it to be simple and clean with a double bed, desk and wardrobe. We didn't have any problems with the complementary filtered water and also enjoyed a lot of hot water in the shower. The breakfast in the morning was nutritious and filling. Whilst it was simple, it is similar to what I have had in Parisian and other European hotels, so I was happy with the choice of several types of tea, plenty of hot water for top-ups and toast with jam.

We loved the location as we walked to Parque Kennedy and the local shopping district and felt safe, as the streets were well-lit.

There was no air-conditioner in our room, which did not worry us as it was mild weather, but it may bother other clients. However, windows can be opened and a pleasant breeze came through.

“Avoid this place like the plague.”

This is the worst place I ever stayed at during my 20+ years of travelling the globe. I got diarrhea from the water glasses there and the staff, management and even ownership were extremely rude and disrespectful in handling this. One of the staff even pushed me in front of the tourist police that I had called to investigate this matter.
Besides this the room was extremely noisy from the incessant motorvehicle traffic.
Take your time to look for other accomodations and avoid this one!!!

I read both in these forums and in our Lonely Planet guide that the upper rooms were good in Hostel El Patio and the price seemed good so I requested one for my wife and I and a room the next night for our friends who were arriving. When we arrived at 1:00 am we were pleased to see that someone was in the office awaiting our arrival, however, the room they tried to give us was a lower at the bottom of the staircase. I showed them the email that I sent specifically requesting an upper but we ended up with the lower. The room was dark, musty and you could hear everyone who walked by the stairs, which was anybody who had to go upstairs. We wanted to sleep in on our first day but we began hearing a steady stream of people coming by our door; beginning at around 5:30 am. This room should be used for storage or something. It is not suitable for patrons. I complained to somebody else who had showed up at the front desk and they said that they couldn't do anything about it. It wasn't until late in the afternoon that I complained once again that a woman named Roxanne (I think) changed us to an upper with a patron who hadn't showed up yet. This room was a great improvement over the first one lacking both the smell and the medieval dungeon feel. It had nice big windows and seemed a lot more fresh.

Both rooms were clean and had hot water and aside from the reservation mix up, the staff was very helpful and friendly. The price was good for the location but they wouldn't give me a discount on the first room.

The location was very convenient and safe but not the best looking part of Miraflores. There is a good restaurant (Las Tejas) right across the street and the best restaurant in town (Astrid y Gaston) right around the corner. It's a 10 minute walk to Larcomar.

I would recommend this place as long as you can be sure that you won't get a ground floor room.

“El Patio is an OK choice”

Hostal El Patio

Sep 11, 2007

We stayed here after arriving into Lima late at night and only spent 2 nights. The staff was very courteous and friendly while the grounds themselves were very nice. The layout of the hotel is pretty nice; a typical older colonial structure with may rooms hidden on different levels.

We stayed on a double room on the third floor. The room itself was a bit dated, but appeared clean. The shower had plenty of hot water and pressure. The beds were ok, nothing great or bad. The only real problem I had is that the room smelled a bit musty. The sheets were also a bit musty. This kind of lowered my rating of the hotel.

The free breakfast was not that great. I guess the problem I had was there were too many flies buzzing around the dining area.

The location is fantastic, right in the heart of Miraflores.

Overall, this is an average and affordable place to stay. Not too great, but at the same time not too bad....
