We realized there had been problems with others recently, but were told the hotel has been leased out by the owner to new operators who did not take the same care as he had. A last minute snafu in communications resulted not in an overnight stay, but we visited the hotel twice and had a chance to look over the rooms. And our booking at Esperanza resulted in further correspondance with the owner's son Max, who personally accompanied us on a three-day tour of Nazca, Pisco, and Ica, as well as the Ballestas Islands, which he arranged for us on short notice and which included the cost of hotels, flight over the Nazca lines, and the boat trip, as wall as a stop at the Huacachina Oasis. The hotel is a 3-star in a good location near many good restaurants and great shopping. It is well protected, although we felt completely safe in this part of Lima. We are aware that some of the management follows the comments on TripAdvisor, and are hopeful they will react properly to the negative comments.
