The Intihuatana is carved from living rock at the summit of a hill in the city of Machu Picchu. There are various theories about its use by the Inca or his priests; it looks to me as if it is a seat meant for meditating. The Intihuatana is almost constantly surrounded by members of tour groups, who hold out their hands to feel the energy given off by the rock, so it was difficult (at least when I was there) to get a photo without people in it. If you visit Machu Picchu, be sure to climb up to the Intihuatana so you can form your own opinion about this powerful place.
