Popping to Alexandria for the weekend, there were a few hotels to choose from. In the end Le Metropole was decided upon. The reviews in the Lonely Planet and the Rough Guide seemed to suggest that it was a nice hotel.
The hotel is a great building. When you arrive you think you are about to step into a Parisien hotel, the architecture is very French in style.
The staff are very friendly, helpful and curteous and make you feel most welcome. Having done the checking in thing the next part was to head to the room, which was via the most fabulous old lift with metal gates and wooden doors to shut before the life will go anywhere. This added to the old colonial style that can be seen all over the hotel and Alexandria.
The rooms are nicely appointed. We had a twin room and the beds were pushed to gether to make a double. The ceiling are tremendously high giving a real sense of space and the bathroom was bright and clean. The room was at the back of the hotel but the front views look over the 20km cornich to the harbour, which is great.
Breakfast was included and this was a good and varied buffet.
All in all a really nice hotel with a gentle pace to life in a city with a lot of hustle and bustle.
