I was in Dubai for a week in May 2007. It was amazing how easy it was to get through immigrations and on to your hotel. People were extremely polite in the hotel, however, not openly friendly. I think the entire time I was there, one person asked if my clothing were my traditional clothing and was I from Cameroon? The hotel Le Meridien Minah Sayahi was amazing, and finally on Thursday, a crowd appeared at the hotel's night spot. Friday, the normal day of worship many places didnot open until noon, however, the great Mall of Emirates actually has an artificial ski slope and a lot of people with lots of money, so if you're's is small, research how you will enjoy Dubai. There is a law against drinking without a license, yet, guest drink in the hotels and clubs. Women are covered with hijab and abaya, but underneath they dress normal like anywhere else. Actually, it is quite beautiful, as one man explained, the women covered is very alluring because as a man, he always wants to see "what is in the package." The currency rate was 3.57 durhams to $1.00 and too my surprise, you're atm card works but only durhams come out of the machine. I bought a high tech cell phone that played the Arabic call to prayer until I figured out how to turn it off. But it is relatively easy to get around and very safe. It's defintely a "must see!"
