My wife and I are seniors. We were looking for a hotel near the port at Valparaiso, Chili. We were taking a 15 day cruise on Princess and wanted to spend a day and a half in Vina Del Mar prior to boarding. That was a wise and wonderful choice. Vina Del Mar is terrific. We were really impressed, Vina is Chile's Fort Lauderdale.
Before I go further "Vina" is quite different than the port facility city at Valparaiso, but they blend one into the other. Valparaiso is older and quite historic, but Vina is modern up-to-date with wonderful restaurants hotels and shopping. Both of them deserve your attention and because the Best Western arranged a guided tour we had a wonderful one day tour of both cities.
The Best Western hotel is perfectly located. It is in the older downtown area of Vina, but it is a three block walk north over the river to the restaurants and other attractions. Most other hotels aren't as centrally located. If you're not experienced with Vina you will be asking for taxi rides.
We started each day off with a wonderful complete breakfast included in the price. Everything fresh and hot. People at the desk spoke very good English and worked very hard to satisfy our particular needs. As example I have a laptop and the hotel provides free wireless Internet. Unfortunately Chile has a 240 V electrical system and I didn't have a converter. Someone at the front desk found one for me.
The room was large, comfortable, by South American standards. You may miss some of the little amenities of a Sheraton or Hilton, but overall we would stay here again anytime.
Chile is beautiful, research and enjoy your time there. Sincerely, Anymouse
