Stayed here based on reviews so far. I have to admit I did not enjoy as much as others. I expected more after reviewing the website.
While it is a new hotel (I think opened last year) , I was expecting more of a five star finish. Quite honestly it feels less quality of other hotels such as the Grand Raffles Hotel or the De La Paix Hotel. The restaurant felt like a huge open space catering to groups and the pool was was rarely in the sun. I didnt really enjoy the layout of the hotel where rooms look onto each other and felt little privacy. Maybe rooms on the outside of the building would be better but potentially noisier due to location of main road.
Have seen people saying location is great to visit the temples, but frankly every hotel is close. All hotels would be within ten minutes of the main Angkor temple and no hotel is close enough to go by foot. So it is a moot point which is closer. And Tara is actually out of the main town center. Better located hotels would be FCC (but food not so good there) or De La Paix (food much better there).
Overall quality would be 3-4 star, but then again, I guess you get what you pay for.
Ideal for those just wanting basic , clean and new accommodation without the luxury...maybe my expectation was too high?

We heard about the Tara Angkor while we were in norhern Laos and contacted them through email. We were able to negotiate an excellent rate for a family of 4 for 3 nights stay. The service at this hotel is as good or better than any 5 star I have stated at in North America. Nice pool, great rooms, awesome staff.

This is an excellent, large, 4 star hotel. It's stylish and has great amenities. We especially enjoyed the fitness room and the swimming pool. We don't normally stay in this kind of hotel, but it had a fantastic "Hot Summer Deal" for families which allowed my brother, my parents, and me an extremely cheap price for our adjoining rooms. Also, this hotel had a pretty good location. Though it was a 2 USD tuk-tuk drive to town, it was located on the road to the Temples of Angkor which was very convenient. The service in the Tara Angkor was great, almost a little too much because when we checked in the staff were all over us, giving us our welcome drink, our welcome present, and forms to fill out all at once. But, overall, a wonderful stay at the Tara Angkor (highly recommended)!!

We stayed for three nights in the Tara (Junior Suite) and cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Its brand new, the accommodation is clean and spacious and the staff absolutely fantastic.

We booked online with the hotel and took advantage of their special offer, which included free transfers from the airport (amongst other things).

From start to finish the staff were friendly and very helpful. The hotel tour manager was very knowledgeable and able to provide some great tips on what to see and what to avoid.

The hotel is conveniently located for the temples of Angkor and the centre of Siem Reap is only 5 minutes by tuk tuk.

The rooms are beautifully decorated, in a modern, minimalist style with a local flavour (such as the Cambodian silk bed covers) and have every modern convenience - including huge plasma screens in both the living area and bedroom. Perfect for relaxing after a day at the temples or local markets.

The rest of the hotel also lives up to expectations. The restaurant is great – providing an extensive buffet breakfast and catering for both Western and Asian palettes. The outside terrace is lovely and cool (well-shaded with water features) and a great spot for breakfast or lunch.

The poolside terrace is also good – with a range of seating and faultless service. Whilst the pool itself is fantastic and provides a much needed respite from the heat of the temples. There is also on onsite gym and sauna – if you feel up to it.

Simply cannot praise this hotel enough – set to be a firm favourite amongst some stiff local competition. I would not hesitate staying there in the future (I’m sure there is a temple or two we missed) and would definitely recommend the Tara to others.
