My friend and I stayed at the Monaco Motel for two days and one night the weekend of 9/24/05. We had an excellent time and would go back.
The location is unbeatable. Right on the beach. The other nice thing were all the decks. One day it was too windy (it was like a sandstorm) to be on the beach. So, we came off the beach and sat on nice reclining chairs on the deck. The chairs were similar to those you see at a pool. Nice and long and reclining until they are parallel with the ground. While sitting on the deck you can see, hear, and smell the ocean. Very nice.
While we never made it to the pool, it was as pictured on the motel web site.
The room was clean and had character. We had a suite, which was nice to have the extra room and the kitchen. The room had a pull out sofa, which ended up being quite comfy. The main room had a TV with a TON of TV stations. The kitchen had a full refrig, mini stove, sink, coffee maker, plates, glasses, and utensils.
The bathroom was small, but funtional. The bedroom had a full (or queen - sorry can't remember) and a twin. Plenty of closet and drawer space was available.
The decor was where the character came in --- think late 60s early 70's kitchy. Yes, all the furniture was old, and needing some updating, but as long as you are managing your expectations, it was fine.
The front desk people were helpful and nice. You could go to the front desk and get ice cubes. A lot of beach places you have to pay for ice or they don't offer it. We paid a half day ($40) to stay until 6pm. That was nice as the weather was great and we spent the day at the beach.
Overall, I would stay here again because of the location, decks, and nice people. This is not the Marriott and as long as you don't expect the Marriott you will have a good time.
