Like staying in a museum dedicated to early 80s vintage decor. Came down with the girlfriend over xmas for a few nights to gamble in Atlantic City. The city itself is on a tear- great new restaurants, fancy new shops, new train staton, convention center, Borgata expansion, outlet mall, etc.. however this AC Hilton is just a total time warp.
Got a comped room through a connection which was nice. Looks like they are slowly doing a rooms renovation. Some floor hallways are a horrible black/gold/purple motif which is just a joke, ours was a little more muted tan. Our room itself looked like it had been spiffed up as well. No flat screen or stylish furniture yet, but the armoire and seating looked newish and a little more contemporary and the bathroom was actually very nice, good size and marble. The room itself was a great size, with nice bay windows. The rest of the hotel's public space was a terribly garish white and black and gold with a lot of those gold lightbulb fixtures hotels used to put in atriums and on glass elevators. So tacky.
Have had dinner at the Oaks Steakhouse which isn't too bad, and brunch this time at Horizons, the 24-hr place. Brunch was fine and service decent enough but the decor of the place is just so cheesy it stinks. Didn't try the hotel spa or fitness center or any of the other restaurants.
Casino is small but dealers were pretty friendly. Location is at the very south end of the pier near the city line with Ventnor which is not ideal for visiting the Borgata (awesome place, see my other review), but at least its near Tropicana which is a pretty good place (had dinner at the Palm there which was a total treat).
Hope to not have to stay here again, place needs major rehab, dragging the rest of Atlantic City down.
