I apologise now, this will be a long one! We have just returned from a week at the Mirabel Beach hotel, wish we'd booked for 2 weeks now. The hotel is absolutely beautiful and deserves every one of it's 5 stars. As soon as you walk through the doors you are blown away by the reception area. The floors are all marble and gleaming and the staff cannot do enough for you.
The rooms are a really nice size and are kept spotless by the housekeeping staff. We had towel scultpures on our beds every day and flowers picked from the gardens for us by the lovely Mostafah (if you're lucky enough to have him as your housekeeper tell him Beccy & Louise say Hi). We paid extra for a sea view and it was well worth it. We were on a corner so we had a sea view on one side and a pool view on the other, our balcony was HUGE!!
There was plenty of choice in the restaurant and the waiters are all so friendly. The deserts are to die for, you could easily pile the pounds on here! The hotel was nowhere near full so we never had to queue and there were loads of free tables.
The hotel has maybe 20 shops that are already open and quite a lot that are not yet open, but you can get everything you need without having to leave the complex. The only problem we encountered was with the bank. The cash machine didn't work all the time we were there so we had to walk along to another hotel to use their's. The bank is open 10 - 3 so if you have travellers cheques or want to change money you can do that there.
The hotel doesn't have much in the way of entertainment in the evenings so if like us you like a bit of nightlife then definitely go to Naama bay. We're both in out 20's and spent 4 of our nights in Naama. There's a Pacha nightclub (we didn't try this though) and plenty of bars. The hotel shuttle bus costs £7.50 for 2 people return and goes 3 times a day (11am, 7pm and 9pm) and returns 4 hours later.
We were quite scared before we went as this was our first time in Egypt and we are 2 blonde 20-something females so we knew we were going to get hassled. I have to say our first day was a bit of a nightmare as we jumped straight in at the deep end and did Old Sharm by day and Naama bay by night which was quite daunting! The shop keepers all come up to you on the street trying to hassle you into their shops and some even follow you down the street shouting after you. We soon toughened up and learnt that putting your hand up and giving them a very firm 'No Thank you' does the trick (most of the time!). By the end of the week we were pro's!!
We went on a trip to Cairo by plane and a Camel ride. We booked the Camel ride through 'Varna Sharm' who have a rep in the Bedouin Bar in Naama bay in the evenings. This included about an hour of camel riding, a climb up a mountain to take photos (great views) and some bedouin tea. This cost us £12 each. We booked the Cairo trip through Kenouz tours who have an office on the main street in Naama. We had 2 fantastic guides called Hassan and Hany and there were only 3 of us on the trip. This cost us £105 each.
All in all we had a fantastic holiday and will be returning next year, although we're hoping to stay in a hotel closer to Naama next time. Mirabel Beach is about a 30min drive to Naama, but it's perfect if you're not bothered about nightlife and are happy to stay in the hotel in the evenings for a drink. All inclusive drinks are served up until 12am.
If anyone would like any more details about anything feel free to email me (bc2490@aol.com) I could talk the hind leg off a donkey about our holiday!!
