“Lovely Complex”

Sol Y Mar Mirabel Beach Resort

Jan 19, 2008
13/13 found this review helpful

Just got back from the Mirabel Club which is part of the Sol Y Mar Beach and Park complex. The complex is massive, - very clean, but be aware if you stay in the Club you can only use one bar on the beach and the bars on the Club complex - their are a number of other bars and speciallity resturants on the complex but you need to pay for these - this was a bit annoying as when we booked all inclusive we where told we could use all of the facilities/bars etc.
The Rooms at the Club where lovely - spacious - the cleaner came every day - he made swans hearts snakes out of our towels every day. Take some £1 coins for tips as every body wants a tip.
The weather was good - nice and sunny but some days it was very windy - go down onto the beach and get behind the wind breaks - you will get a fantastic tan. You need a jumper or coat at night as it does get cold.
The pools where lovely - especially the heated one which the children where greatfull of as the daily entertainment was either in German or Russian - not catered for english at all. The waterslides where great but the pool was freezing - but - the children still went on them - they even managed to get a lovely lady on them on our last day who we met called Jackie - dont think she will be doing that again.
The food was lovely - hot and lots of choice, lovley salads, cakes and the bread was to die for.
We met some fantasic people on this holiday - Hello Emma Paul Dan Lauren Richard Michelle Megan Cerys Paul Chris Jackie Andrea Darren Sarah Scott Alison - just a pity we where only staying for one week and had to leave you behind. Hope to see you when we have a reunion.
The entertainment at night was not very good - we made our own with MC Paul! - Kingston Town will never be the same again.
We did go out to Narma Bay - we got a taxi from outside the hotel £5.00 each way - agree your price before you get in and dont pay any more. When we arrived we got a taxi from the airport and they tried to charge us £25.00 we ended up paying £15.00 - cannot understand this as when you go out to Narma Bay you need to go past the airport to get there. Dont be put off when you get out of the taxi at Narma Bay - its MAD - but once you have crossed the road and got onto the main strips they dont pester you as much. Its a good night out there but just watch the prices for drinks - it can be expensive.
We will be going back to Sharm again next year but will try another hotel closer to Narma Bay - but - if you want a chilled relaxing holiday this complex is for you. Hope this review is helpful. Karen Barry Callum - Bolton - England

“Comfortable and relaxed at the Mirabel Club”

Sol Y Mar Mirabel Beach Resort

Dec 31, 2007

We stayed as a family of 4 with two teenagers for 11 days over Christmas at the Mirabel Club Hotel. When booking it is a little confusing as the site is divided into three sections, The Mirabel Club ( Furthest away from the beach, 10 minutes walk, and probably the quietest ), The Mirabel Park ( With the water slides, medium size) and The Mirabel Beach ( largest and closest to the beach). All 3 areas are available to all guests, however, if on an all inclusive deal you can only eat and drink in your own area, except for the beach bar and cafe which is available to everybody. I do not believe this makes any difference to the quality or selection of food which was fairly good and varied, although you must remember every meal is a buffet. There are 3 A la carte restaurants on site at which you can pay, a Chinese/Japanese, an Itailian and a Lebanese. We ate in the Chinese and with a bottle of wine it cost £95UK for four.
The grounds are superb with well developed and clean gardens and a selection of something like 7 or 8 free form swimming pools, although only some are heated in the winter months.
The beach is OK with lots of sun beds, shades, and large towels are supplied around the pools and on the beach. Immediately in front of the hotel the sea is only around waist high when the tide is in and up to your knees when the tide is out and you can easily walk right out to the reef about 200 yards out. If you turn left at the beach and walk for around 15 to 20 minutes you come to a currently undeveloped beach where the reef curves in and you can swim or snorkel along the edge of the reef just 20 yards off the beach with the most incredible selection of fish following you ............ my wife, who can only just swim, thought this was fantastic!
You have to be very careful walking along the path at the back of the row of hotels adjoining the beach as there are lots of electric scooters for hire that are almost silent and, unfortunately, they are hired to young children, and not so young idiots, that can't control them and seem to need to travel at top speed ....... this is an accident waiting to happen and somebody WILL be seriously injured or worse. They don't even supply crash helmets, or, if they do, we never saw anybody wearing one. No doubt when a young child ends up knocking over a pedestrian and injuring themselves the parents that hired them the scooter will blame the pedestrian! The fact that The Mirabel is the only hotel to have put down speed bumps along their section of path to try and slow down these scooters probably gives some insight into their style of management and attention to detail.
I guess the one criticism is that the hotel is a little isolated, you cannot just walk down the road to another bar or restaurant for a change of scene, however, the area is being developed fairly rapidly and I guess this will change over the next couple of years. It is also fairly close to the airport and you have the planes flying overhead but they are not that frequent, do not really intrude and we never noticed any flying at night. Also you have to accept the 'entertainment' for what it is, fairly amateurish but good wholesome fun that breaks the evening up ........... this is not a hotel for a group of teenagers or 20 somethings out for the high life and expecting to dance the night away.
Nama Bay itself is a £50Egyptian taxi ride away after furious negotiation and we went once but decided we really didn't want to go again as it was highly commercialised and every twenty yards it was hassle, hassle, hassle. But, if you like that sort of thing there were plenty of restarants there of every type and shape.
Would we go back again to The Mirabel Club? Yes we would, it is a well designed hotel, rooms are clean and very good, ours had a double bed and two singles in a separate room, ideal for two parents with young children, although we booked two rooms anyway as we enjoy a bit of peace and quiet. Hot water is readily available, there is a safe in the room plus a hair dryer and the satellite TV worked well. The food is fine, not quite gourmet , but perfectly adequate, and the staff are well trained and try very hard to make you stay enjoyable. I took along with me a pocket full of USA one dollar bills and this certainly helped to make a difference to the speed of service and the attention we were given. For example, when we went in to dinner and selected our table our wine was always there by the time we had selected our first course and returned to the table ............. a little consideration goes a long way! ( Talking to one waiter he suggested they only earn around £30UK a week so the odd US dollar bill helps grease the wheels.)
We returned home feeling we had enjoyed our holiday, very relaxed and felt we had received value for money, what more can one say?

“Wow what a place to stay”

Just returned from a 10 day stay in the Mirabel park Hotel, and all i can say is WOW. It is an excellent top class hotel for all types of people, whatever they expect from a holiday. The moment you get to the gates of this complex you will be amazed at the oppulence of this resortand feel like royality from the start. staff are excellent, food is brillant and waiter service is beyond compare. I will be back there. Onny one gripe really and that is there is one waiter/bar manager ine the main bar of the Mirabel park and on the last night demanded a tip from me even though i had tipped all the people that i had wanted to at his stage, he tried to embaress me into tipping him also, but it did not work. just a word of caution to potential travellers at this Hotel. Dont let that last comment put you off as it is only one greedy person amongst many excellent staff. Hope you enjoy your stay there as much as i did.

“Good Family Hotel”

Sol Y Mar Mirabel Beach Resort

Stayed at the Mirabel for the first week in October. We are a family of three - 2 adults and one 6 year old.

The weather was fantastic - the temperature just right at this time of year.
The hotel setting is really nice - all beautifully landscaped and kept very clean. The Mirabel is one of three hotels within the complex and is probably the cheapest of the three as it is not quite so opulent as the other two. Each hotel has its own pools but all pools can be used by everyone. It is quite a long walk from the Mirabel to the beach which didn't bother us as we had plenty of time and like walking but you wouldn't want to forget something in your room and have to go back for it! The rooms are excellent - really big, comfortable and clean! The family rooms at the Mirabel have two extra single beds that can be curtained off from the main part of the room which really is great for the kids. The bathroom is huge. Beware, we met someone who had burnt themselves badly by turning on the shower and the water coming out boiling hot! The staff were friendly and happy to help. We would rate the food 7/10 - it is fresh and I think a lot of effort goes into it but it all sort of tasted the same by the end of the week. We didn't eat any of the cold starters i.e. salad or fruit that we couldn't peel ourselves, we also didn't have ice in our drinks and we had no tummy upsets at all. I don't think I would have wanted to eat the food for a 2nd week but for 1 week it was fine. The pastries and cakes were exceptionally good. We didn't go to any of the evening entertainment programmes and the animation was very subtle - in fact I think you would have to go and look for it. Our son did go to the kids club a couple of times which he enjoyed but it was quite hard to find out what was happening at the beginning. I heard that the kids club will be closing down soon. The slide pool was great fun for young and old. Overall I would say this is a really good hotel for families who want a relaxing holiday with pools and beach and who are happy to entertain themselves. The beach is not really a swimming beach but it is interesting to wade out to the ship wreck and there is a great bay for snorkelling a 10 minute walk from the hotel beach.

We would definitely go back to this hotel as the standard of cleanliness and the facilities were overall really good.

I arrived at Sharm airport and on first impressions was a bit dissapointed and did n ot expect it to get better.

However once arrived at the hotel you couldnt of wished for anything better, the hotel was like a dream i felt as if i was in paradise. i find it hard to belive that the hotel and its neighbour hotels of the same company could ever be matched for overall experience and specific areas such as the food the rooms the resort and most of all the people and staff.

i have just arrived back from my holiday after also speaking to the manager of the resort and the first thing i have done is write a letter of commendation to that manager for a truely fantastic holiday and he should be very proud of the hotels.

i would with the authority recommend the park hotel for the 6*Award and would not only be happy but privalidged to stay at the hotel again; if i return to egypt to sharm i would not even want to try another hotel i would simply go to sol y mar mirabel park over and over again.
