Firstly, I will quote all monies in 'Pounds Sterling' to avoid confusion.
We booked through Thomson website, nice flight out of Birmingham, no delays. Decent food on flight.
Arrived at the Baron Hotel late afternoon of 3rd April. We stayed on a B&B basis, as I know HB and AI is available at this hotel. First room was 236, which faced the road, and was a twin as opposed to a double. Not ideal for a romantic getaway, so asked to be switched to a double overlooking the beach. This was done for an additonal £11 per night. Robe and slippers provided in each room. The room was cleaned everyday with the usual nice touches.
Cannot fault the breakfast in the mornings. Buffet style with everything you can think of, fresh fruit, eggs, waffles, crepes, yoghurt etc. Never any trouble to find a table, and tea and coffee served in a large flask, so definately more then 2 cups! Only groan is the non-smoking area is significantly smaller than the smoking!
We ate at all the restaurants on the resort, our favourites been the Seafood and the Taj Mahal Indian. With The Seafood restaurant, you really don't have any idea what your meal will cost until the bill arrives, as you choose the fish upon arrival, which is weighed then cooked for you on an open grill then served to you on a small charcoal grill at your table. For 2 starters, 2 mains and a bottle of Egyptian wine the price varied between £25- £40. The bottle of Egyptian wine was between £10-13. They never seemed very forth coming with desserts, as a few times I noticed other tables had been given their bill after their main dish was finished, when they did want a dessert!
The pool bar was a little windy at times, and as they tend to serve in tall plastic cups for safety reasons, they had a habit of blowing over. We only ate in here a few times and the food was good. About £6 for a burger and fries, and £1.50 for a soft drink. Never had a problem with service.
The pool itself is huge, heated, with a shallow end for the little ones, although there is a childrens pool anyway. Seemed to be plenty of sunbeds and enough brollys. Beach towel hut opens at 7am.
The beach has more than enought sunbeds, all with brollys for every 2 beds. The usual 'lucky lucky' men walking up and down, but a polite no thank you and they mould move on.
We found the cocktail prices expensive. £6 each for a glass. The local beer, Stella, £3 for half litre bottles was ok.
We did one excursion via Thomson. Would recommend you take travellers cheques or English notes if you intend to book any trips via them, as they price everything in £ sterling, but if you pay by card, this is switched to Egyptian pounds at a ridiculous rate and you would end up paying significantly more! The Stars and Dinner evening I would definately recommend, as the star gazing is amazing. If you're lucky, you'll also get to see Saturn through a telescope!
The hotel does offer a return shuttle bus into Naama Bay (about 20 mins away) for £4 return, but we never used it as the times were a bit random. We used a hotel taxi, which is supposed to be £8 one way, but if they're quiet, we got them to do it for £5.
We're glad we didn't go All Inclusive, as there are quite a few restrictions about where you can eat and what drinks you can have. Everything can be charged to your room, so no need to carry cash whilst out and about the resort, although a bit for tipping was much appreciated.
The hotel seemed to be very popular amongst the Russians, we only noticed a few English whilst there, but that isn't always a bad thing!
All in all, a nice break and would recommend to all.
