“Great honeymoon location!!!”

Nukubati Island Resort

Oct 11, 2007
4/4 found this review helpful

My wife and I just returned from Fiji (our honeymoon), where we stayed in multiple locations - last at Nukubati. We absolutely loved it. Jenny, the owner, has created a very relaxed, relatively small scale luxury resort on an island just North (5 min by boat) of Vanua Levu (Fiji's second largest island). The location is quite remote (no cell phones....!), with no other resorts in the immediate surroundings, which adds to the attraction. The things we loved about the resort are the hospitality of Jenny and the staff, the great atmosphere of the resort, the quality of the bure, the activities and the quality of the food.

We stayed for 4 nights in a Honeymoon Bure, which is slightly larger than the bungalow suites, but similar in location (all are right on the beach). It is a charming, characteristic and well maintained room with all amenities required (but no airconditioning - which is not really needed anyway). The island itself is close to being self sufficient in its energy and water needs (additional solar panels are being installed).

The staff is one of the main attractions of Nukubati. Their are very friendly, take the effort to remember your name (all 30-40 of them...!) and are always up for a chat. We felt genuinly loved and cared for all the time. A small detail: we noticed they had raised our national flag in our honor!

Nukubati offers a wide range of activities. We loved the lunch at a local sandbank (and got picked up just before it disappeared due to high tide). We enjoyed a fishing trip. I liked sailing in the catamaran, we enjoyed the kayaking and snorkelling. We heard from other guests that the diving was very good with lots of soft corals. Nukubati is the only place that offers diving in the North of Vanua Levu. There is also a lit tennis court and volleyball net.

The food was the best that we ate it Fiji. It is based on local ingredients (quite often the guests' catch of the day), but catered to western tastes. We felt that the quality of the ingredients and the preparation was much better than other places we have been to in Fiji, including an upmarket restaurant in Nadi.

I can advise anyone who wants to relax in a great tropical surrounding to go to Nukubati.

We deinitely will do so if we have the opportunity!

Nukubati Island Resort is a unique getaway that is tailored to those adults who eschew Las Vegas style glitz.
There are no phones, video games or TV`s` in the seven simple but tastefully appointed seaside bures. This is not the ideal location for young adults who need to be entertained.
What Nukubati is,is a laid back refuge for the soul. If offers five star cuisine served anytime, anywhere, a well stocked bar and an even better stocked library.
The many activities include diving, snorkeling, excellant fishing
(with Captain Allen) sailing, hiking and nature tours on and off of the water. You can even engage with the staff for their daily game
of volleyball.
Boat across the channel to visit one of four nearby Fijian villages where most of the staff live or if you wish to go to church. Please
note that it is customery for women to cover their arms and legs as a sign of respect to your Fijian hosts. The music is outstanding.
A champagne lunch on a remote sandbank is not to be missed nor having your dinner on the beach under the Milkey Way.
You can also travel a short way down the coast and buy your significant other a beautiful pearl from the Civa Tolu pearl farm.
The intuitive staff is never invasive and if you require solitude they will comply, you will however miss their abundant playful charm and undying wish to please.
We hope that your Nukubati visit is as memorable as ours have been, friends that we have made on the island all say that you can`t explian it you just have to expierence it!
We are repeat visitors and the Nulubati expierence stays with you for a lifetime, it will reach your heart as it has ours.

“Nukubati - Private Oasis, Pefect family holiday”

Swimming with wild dolphins in the great sea reef, visiting the local villages and seeing the young children smiling, kayaking around the island under the glistening Fiji sun and returning to the pavilion to eat the fresh tuna you caught on the way back from the reef. It's a busy day but one that you just wish would last forever. I'm only 15, but it doesn't take age to appreciate the natural beauty that surrounds Nukubati, from the snorkeling reef's right in front of your bure to the path that winds through the forest taking you up to the lookout for sunset. But it's not the just the island itself that makes Nukubati the experience it is, it's the staff that make sure your always entertained, going out of their way to make sure you feel at home. By the end of your trip they're not just staff, they're your family.

Nukubati really is your oasis and over the month i spent there I saw many people come and go, all equally as sad when they hopped in the boat back off to the mainland. I can't wait for my fourth trip, seeing all my old friends at Nukubati

I'm 14 and I went to Nukubati for my 14 birthday, and it was an amazing experience, I learned so much and met so many new people, when I left the staff were no longer just staff they were my best friends everyone is so friendly and so nice it was different being there than in California, it is a different way of living and a great experience one that I will never forget and I encourage people my age to at least stay at Nukubati once because you will have learned and experienced things you will use for the rest of your life.

I tried to add more photos but it would not let me so I will put the photos up on my website [--],by 9/3/07 the web site does not work right now so just wait until then
Thanks

“Second trip and just as amazing”

My second visit to Nukubati was no less sensational than the first, one of the most amazing things about arriving the second time was the staff, they were genuinely excited that I had returned. This time I was ready for the serenity of the place and made sure I did most of the optional activities. I have to say the sand bank picnic is still one of the most unique things you can experience, similar to being on a deserted island but in no-way roughing it, with champagne and lobster salad.

The great sea reef was next on the agenda and after diving some of the most famous reefs around the world, the great sea reef is untouched and although we only did snorkeling, the sea life and coral formations are breathtaking.

The rest of my time was taken up wandering through the gardens, swimming in what felt like our own private ocean lagood, reading, and of course eating! The chef should have a michelin star, the food is sublime, I have eaten fresh seafood elsewhere but it tastes even fresher at Nukubati.

Sometimes you find a place that you want to keep a secret, this is one of them, but I cant stop talking about it and telling everyone, so here is my second review.
