We decided that we would like to try and capture some early summer sun and decided that we had a good chance of good weather in Tunisia.
I'm glad that we did as we all had a fantastic time!
My wife & I have a 13 month old daughter so were not keen on spending hours on a plane, so a 3 hour flight time fitted the bill.
We selected the Yasmine Hammamet region as the hotels are part of a tourist area along the seafront, very easy to leave your resort and wander along the coastline upto the marina passing shops, bars, cafes, banks etc along the way.
We chose the Averroes hotel for 2 reasons :
- junior suite gives you that vital extra space to put a cot without walking into it at all times
- direct access to the sea - other hotels are across the road.
We did see standard double rooms, so if you do need a cot it will fit, just a slight squash but not bad at all.
Our room was nice, clean, tidy all that you'd expect also lucky our seaview benefited from the afternoon sun, others are in the shade.
The view was fantastic, nothing between ourselves and the sea just what the doctor ordered.
Now to the good bits!
Service - irrespective if you're halfboard or all inclusive give the staff tips! a couple of dinar here and there will make your holiday so much better! We were all inclusive so no need to pay for anything but wasn't going to risk spoiling my own holiday over a few euros/pounds here and there.
All said and done the staff are pretty attentive & friendly. They will do what they can to help at all times, for example everyday we'd walk into the restaurant to find our table with highchair ready and waiting.
Food - this was my biggest concern, I'd read other reports on tripadvisor of food being cold or faintly warm. In our hotel this was only true of the chips!
Being a buffet you could serve yourselves from the heated steam bath counters but we would definately reccommend the 2 or 3 dish of the day courses which are freshly prepared and delicious.
For the kids out there they also have a pizza oven which is in use most days too.
For breakfast you can pretty much get everything you want - I became quite partial to the freshly made pancakes with honey - didn't bother asking for lemon & sugar!
Even the all inclusive wines were drinkeable, normally tasting these pushes you to buy your own bottle. We did buy wine for the room for some evenings but at 16 dinar, 9 euros, 6 pounds it's not exactly bank breaking!
Because we went in April, we did encounter some fairly strong winds on arrival, but temperature was already > 20 degrees when it died down, on the best of days temperature was hitting the 30 degree mark, so perfect for us.
Also resort wasn't completely full so plenty of space for our daughter to toddle around
The only downside of going in April is the water temperature.
The outdoor pools and sea are not warm enough to swim in....a few brave souls did give it a go towards the end of our stay as the sun started to beat down though!
There is an indoor pool which you can use though which is heated.
The hotel has been around for a few years and you can see a bit of wear and tear, but I found the the staff responded very well and quickly to fix any problems.
Speaking to fellow guests who had ventured out to view the area, we all agreed that the Averroes was one of the better hotels in the area.
After having such a good holiday my wife and I agreed we would go back but believe May would be a better time or at the end of the seaon in September/October when the water is lovely and warm
I hope this helps you make your choice!
