“Great size room overlooking Palace”

Stay April 2-4 (3 Nights)
Paid AUD $229 for twin room with internet & newspaper.
Room 1006

It was PEAK time so very high rates and impossible to get in anywhere else in Tokyo.

Location was 300m walk to subway. With a cost of a ticket for up to 9 stops away being a steal at Y160, your close to all Tokyo has to offer. Everthing is not that far away if you are happy to walk. We walked to Shibuya & Shinkjuku, which walking along the local streets was very peaceful away from the crowds.

There is a family mart and 7-11 close by to stock up the fridge in the room ( although it wasnt that expensive and there was a vending machine on our floor)

In room movies are extra at Y1000 which is valid from when you check in until 11am next day. So even if you stay multiple days it cuts out at 11am. Movies are listed in Japanese, but some are english, although most are b and c grade movies. Way to much porn, but it seems to be everywhere in Japan!

We never got bothered to vacate our room for cleaning, twice we left at 12pm enjoying a sleep in and our spacious room.

We were able to leave our luggage at the hotel for 2 nights prior to our stay and 1 night after. Max is 30 days it said on the ticket! Saves you abit on luggage storage as the train station lockers run up until midnight and you have to put more money in the next day to take it out.

“Excellent hotel - great location”

Monterey Akasaka

I just returned from a week in Tokyo on business and was really pleased with this hotel. I lived in Tokyo for 3 years so have some knowledge of the city.

The Monterey Akasaka is a great value for what it offers. It is spanking new, incredibly clean and one of the most quiet hotels I have ever stayed at in my life. Not what I expected in downtown Tokyo. I am used being woken by hallway and street noise but this did not happen.

Rooms are not overly large, but hey this is Japan and the rates cannot be beat. Rooms are very clean, stylish and filled with lots of great ameneties including all you would expect such as free internet access (not wireless) but cord supplied, nice but small desk, stocked mini-bar, complete bathroom supplies (soap, shampoo, toothbrush, etc).

Location is excellent -- 4 minutes walk downhill to nearest subway Akasaka Mitsukemae on the convenient Marunouchi (red) subway line. Minutes to Tokyo station and all central locations including Roppongi for some evening fun!

I liked the local coffee shop nearby for breakfast and there is a Starbucks by station and lots of 24hour convenience stores.

Hotel staff was professional and helpful, but somewhat reserved. Typical for Japan. I would guess about 40% of guests are non-Japanese business travelers so they are set up for non-Japanese visitors pretty well.

All-in-all I had feeling I was staying at much more expensive hotel than I paid for. Tip - I brought way too much luggage and clothing. Closet is very small! They have same day drop off cleaning service. Next time I will only take 2 suits and use reasonably priced laundry service.

If you go here they will not tell you but you need to insert key in a magnetic holder near door for electricity to turn on -- smart conversation idea as all goes off when you leave. Just a bit hard to find in the dark when I arrived.

I am booking my next trip to this hotel.

“Smart Hotel”

Monterey Akasaka

Jan 6, 2008

New, smart hotel near the attractions of Akasaka.

We weren't expecting our standard double to be spacious, but we found it a little too small. We had quite a bit of luggage - but nowhere to put it! Also, you could only get in and out of the bed on one side. On reflection, a twin might have been a better bet.

Although the hotel website offers complementary internet access we found it wasn't actually available. Although we discovered when we were checking out that we could have rented a laptop...

The hotel retaurant looked very oplulant but we didn't try it as it was expensive - and we might have felt rather under-dressed!

The hotel doesn't have a bar and we thought it would benefit from one, or at least a comfortable sitting area for guests. When my partner wanted a lie-in one morning there was nowhere to go but outside.

I lived in Japan for 6 years and was not expecting the best from a hotel in Tokyo. I booked this hotel on the reviews posted on this site and I have to agree with everyone else that this is a very good deal. Not a large room by any means, but clean and new. The staff was very friendly, and the subway stations for different lines a very near.

“Excellent hote, excellent location, highly recommended”

My partner and I stayed here for five nights. The hotel is clean and well equipped and its location is excellent. The metro station is not far away, with excellent connections. From memory the two main lines that run through there service a lot of the areas of interest to tourists and you're only a couple of stops away from Shinjuku and Roppongi. The area is also very safe with a lot of excellent restaurants and ramen bars. I also got a complimentary english language newspaper every day. Overall, highly recommended. The only downside is that Airport limousine service only stops at Hotel New Otani which is about 1 km away, the nature of the geography meant that we had to get a taxi from there to the hotel but this was not expensive but something to keep in mind if a traveller has any mobilty constraints.
