We spent 5 nights there in mid May.

Hotel (it's not really a resort) is well located if you are after a quiet time. Hotel is very small, lovely grounds, reminded us of Bali. The breakfast overlooking the beach is absolutely divine. Like others said, it is limited to eggs to your liking, bread/toast with jam/marmalade, tea/coffee & selection of fruit. Basic, but adequate.
Staff is extremely nice & very helpful.
Unfortunately, our room (98) was a big disappointment.
After reading all the positive reviews & seeing all those nice pictures of the rooms, when we entered ours our hearts sank.
The room was very old looking & smelt mouldy.
The furniture was old; few of the lamps/power cords were very crudely repaired with electrical tape (beware if going with kids). The fridge was also mouldy & smelt bad. Locking chain on the door was broken & you had to lock the door to close it.
Ceiling looked like it was ready to collapse.
There were only usable 2 power points available, located behind TV, both used, so you had to unplug something to, say, charge batteries or boil some hot water.
Bathroom was NOTHING like in any pictures we saw. Shower with old/chipped tiles, no shower curtain, water running to only waste in the floor through the hole in vanity side.
Vanity was tiny – barely enough room for basic toiletries. Mirror above vanity had wooden bits missing. Black mould everywhere – whole bathroom looked filthy.
Worst of all there was no window or any ventilation. So after doing “number 2” we had to resort to lighting matches & spraying air freshener to kill the smells. It didn’t work too well…
Overall, we had fantastic time in Langkawi. Sunset Beach Resort was lovely, staff excellent, but room 98 a great disappointment .
Would go there again, but would have to check the room first.

We have just returned from a 3 night stay at this beautiful, simple resort. We stayed at their triple room, but it was big enough to accommodate even four people, (note: no extra bed needed).

The reception, headed by Ella and Das were wonderful ladies, They were kind enough to offer us the best tips around Langkawi, They booked car sevice, mangrove tours and return transfers for us. They even offered us free transfers to Sun Village, where we dined at their Malaysian themed resto, Try their yellow rice, Take a look at the nice restrooms at the Sun Cafe, and the Sun Bar .

Breakfast at the Sunset consists of two eggs, small piece of sausage, a glass of fruit juice, coffee or tea and eat all you can bread, fruits, cereals. Breakfast was simple but healthy. You can enjoy a nice beachview while having your breakfast. You can walk along Pantai Tengah beach after breakfast.

Do not expect much for room amenities for RM 260 triple room.. TV 14 inch only,(5 channels only, no English channel) no Shampoo, no lotion, soap only. The most important thing is that it is clean and there are no bugs.Stay here if you love the beach and outstanding service but if you are after resort amenities, you wil be disappointed.

We will definitely stay here again on our next Langkawi trip.

We went to Langkawi over the May Day holiday and stayed at Sunset Beach Resort. The great photos on the website proved to be even better once I saw the place. The hotel had a "spa-like" feel with the fish pond at the reception and the decor of the spacious room. The veranda of our room added a nice touch. Plus, I was greeted by the sound and sight of the waves before me while I sipped on my coffee for breakfast.

I highly recommend the place :)!

Sunset Beach is a small place, with cabins set in a lovely garden. At the end of the walk is the most beautiful little stretch of beach. It is uncrowded, clean, shaded with palms.... There aren't any fancy amentities - like a pool or bar - but that makes it more peaceful and relaxing. The rooms are large, each with a small lanai, but they are nothing fancy. The staff is wonderful.

The location is very good. There is a beach bar/restaurant right next door, as well as an all-night bar. There are many other bars and restaurants on the main street, and it is near Underwater World.
