It was our first time in KL and we chose Traders based on TripAdvisor - very good choice, we were not disappointed!
Room: If you book the Traders Club rooms, double check beforehand that you will be given a room on the 27 - 31 floors (=Traders Club). We were first given a room on 25th floor for the 1 st night (including access to Traders lounge) even though we had booked a Traders Club room and requested a room at a higher floor with good view. The rooms are actually the same size and decoration so in that sence it did not matter. But I insisted that the next day we want to get a room from the higher floor with a better view. I tried to move us immediately but the hotel was fully booked and they were unable to give us a room at the Traders Club floors.
The first room, 2503, was in the inner corner (the hotel is shaped like the letter L) so we could see (and be seen) directly to the rooms next to us and to the gym on the 26th floor. I did not want anyone to see me sitting by the window and admiring the Petronas Towers so we moved to 3119 the next day which had a much better view. The L shaped part of the hotel ends on 27th floor so upper than that the view is much more open. The rooms are spacious and clean and with plenty of closet space. The bathroom is beautiful with the marble decoration, and has both shower and bath. Our air con did not work properly in the new room but was immediately fixed upon our request. Housekeeping brings complimentary water bottles and fresh fruit to the room every day.
Traders lounge: We loved the lounge on 32nd floor! We ate breakfast there each 6 mornings (from 6.30 to 10.30, included in our price). We could have also eaten on the 5th floor main restaurant but did not go there once. At the Traders lounge breakfast here is plenty to choose from and chefs prepare you eggs etc. based on your separate request. Ask the waiters for capuccino or other special coffee and they will prepare it for you (for free).
The cocktail hour from 5.30 - 7.30 is GREAT! Lots of food and all the drinks are for free - they have a full bar so not just wine and beer but your favourite drinks. There is plenty of staff during breakfast and cocktail hour so you do not need to wait to be served. And the staff wants you to enjoy the free drinks in the evening, they keep coming and asking what would you like to drink next, and warn about the ending 5 minutes before so you can order 1 - 2 additional drinks to your table, if you like. Cocktail hour was very popular and all the tables seem to be full almost every evening.
In the Traders lounge there are 2 computers with internet access and a printer, which was good and which I used many times for printing sightseeing info etc.
Service: We noticed that all workers are very young (18 - 25). It did not bother us as they were friendly and there was always plenty of staff at the Traders lounge. However, it seemed that maybe they do not have enough experience to deal with more complicated issues, but just the basics. The main thing is that they are friendly and wanted to make us enjoy our stay. Special thanks to beutiful Jayde at the Traders lounge, it was nice to talk to you during our stay!
Hotel: We only ate once on the 5th floor restaurants. We got the food fast as we mentioned being tired after the flight and wanted to go to bed soon. Food was good.
We did not use the pool on the 33rd floor as it was not so appealing with only 3 sunbeds and the SkyBar tables around the pool. We agree with previous writers that the bar and pool should be separated. We did not go to the SkyBar at all in the evenings as it did not look that attempting and we got the same beautiful view from our room 2 floors below. We tried to book a table to SkyBar on Thursday morning for Friday evening at 8 pm but they were fully booked. We read from TripAdvisor that without a booking you have to queue for a long time so we didn't bother trying. Instead, we went to nearby restaurants / cocktail bars.
Surroundings: The hotel "buggy", shuttle bus is fun and convenient for going to Suria KLCC under the Twin Towers. It is not a long walk, but a hot one. You can walk inside the convention centre all the way to Mandarin Oriental and then only a short part outside. KL is not designed for pedestrians and when you leave the hotel, there are not very good walking lanes by the roads - it is not very tempting to walk around.
The huge and very good new shopping mall Pavillion is within walking disctance, we walked there and back with our shopping bags. You need to run over the roads and watch out for the cars as there are no pedestrian crossings on the road behind the hotel on your way to Pavillion. The nearest LRT station is under the Twin Towers, we only used it once - quite hectic and full of people and not so clean and comfortable as the MRT in Singapore.
The hotel gets you normal metered taxis and limo taxis based on your request as well as fixed fee taxis. We used a fixed fee taxi to go to the jungle FRIM and to the airport. We went to FRIM another day with a normal metered taxi and it was much much cheaper so I would prefer using normal metered taxis in KL (as long as the meter is running normally and not faster than it should, which they apparently sometimes do in KL for tourists!).
The hop-on hop-off sightseeing bus has a stop in front of the Mandarin Oriental hotel near Traders and they sell 24 h tickets on board (38 MYR). One round takes 2,5 hours and is a recommendable tour to take!
