La Quinta properties in Texas are of varying quality -- some are new, show piece properties, while others are old and tired. Unfortunately, the Oltdorf location falls into the second camp.
It was therefore not surprising that I "won" this hotel on a 2-star $35 bid on priceline. At that price, it's more than an acceptable place to rest your head for the night. The location, adjacent to I-35 just a few minutes south of downtown, is convenient. I didn't notice anything untoward in the neighborhood, but it's certainly not a garden spot. The hotel is old and while some effort has been made to spruce it up, it's nothing more than 2 star quality. So if you get a good price, go for it. At a higher price, I'd look for more quality.
