“Meeting of the Waters a MUST!”

Tropical Manaus

This hotel was great! My aunt went there for a professional conference, and I tagged along. I was concerned that I would be very bored staying at the hotel all day while she attended meetings, but I was pleasantly surprised. The hotel has beautiful, well-kept grounds that I enjoyed wandering around in. The river beach was beautiful. There are also several shops on the property and they keep some tropical animals in a "zoo" on the grounds for those who don't have the chance to see the rainforest.

When I finally got tired of exploring the hotel itself, I took advantage of the many tours of the city and surrounding rainforest that the tour company at the hotel offered. The "Meeting of the Waters" tour is an absolute MUST! If you stay at the Tropical Manaus (or anywhere in the area, for that matter) and you don't go on this tour, you are really missing out on a fabulous experience. It's worth every penny.

The rooms were very nice, and the hallways leading to them were beautiful and made me feel like I was staying in a castle.

Highly recommended.

“Very OK”

Tropical Manaus

We stayed at the Tropical Manaus Hotel last week. The best way to describe it is that its the Shining set in the tropics. A massive complex with a very nice swimming pool in the business center. This place has a very strange vibe. According to the guide books, there is a disco in the hotel, however none of the staff have ever heard anything about it. The restaurants are overpriced for the quality of the food. We were told that the buffet was 25 reals/person. When the bill came back, it ended up being 50 reals/person. The staff wouldn't even let us keep a copy of the receipt.

Overall, an OK place to stay the night, however, I'd advise that you go to a place like the Amazon EcoPark if you want to see the jungle.

“Rather tired and dated”

Tropical Manaus

We found this hotel rather tired and dated, with a somewhat Soviet or institutional feel to the place!
Eating in the main breakfast room felt like being in a company canteen.
Our room was very dark and we couldn't figure out how to change the aircon settings. Also, walls were thin and we were disturbed by neighbouring room.
It was a 10 minute walk to reception - this is a HUGE hotel!
We ordered something on room service and wrong food arrived - this was, however, remedied once I called them again!

Our room was clean though and I suspect this may have been the best of the bunch in Manaus. Compared to the other places we stayed in during our trip to Brazil, the rooms were not great.

“Good Hotel, Nice Area, had seen better days”

Tropical Manaus

Feb 12, 2008

This hotel has an excellent service, the pools are really good, with waves. Private zoo

The breakfast was amazing, with region tipical foods.
Good service.
Far away from the city center, but the only reason to go there is the Theatre. Has a peer where you can take boats for the Black river and jungle rides and unique attractions.
We had wonderfull time at the hotel.

“Large hotel on expansive riverfront property, needs renovation”

Tropical Manaus

3 of 5 stars
Tucson, Arizona

This hotel, built in 1976, seems at least 20 years older than that. The atrium and main pool area have been renovated but the hallways, rooms, and bathrooms appear to be original. The hotel is located on a 100+ acre site in the best part of Manaus, on the banks of the Rio Negro. It is about 10km (6 mi) from the airport and about twice that far from central Manaus.
The Tropical Business Hotel is a newer 20+ story hotel on the same site. From the outside, it appears to be much nicer than the older hotel.
Both hotels share the grounds which, in addition to three pools all together, have a gymnasium, tennis courts, and a forested area. There is also a small zoo with a sole jaguar, several species of monkeys, a cayman, and several species of birds, all in small caged areas.
The original hotel has a nice dining room, a complimentary full breakfast in the coffee shop, and a small grill, as well as a bar in the lobby. There is a small cluster of nice stores in a open-air courtyard off the lobby. The hallways are long and large and the rooms are larger than average. The halls and rooms show wear consistent with their age but are clean and well kept. The grounds are also well maintained.
There were two ATMs in the lobby but neither worked with my ATM card from the U.S., so unless you plan on changing money at the desk, get cash at the airport ATMs before you leave for the hotel.

  • This TripAdvisor Member:
    • Liked — clean in a good location, probably the best hotel property in Manaus.
    • Disliked — Hallways and rooms need renovation, looks like original 1976 interiors and furniture.
