Got a last minute booking from a website and this was the only one available from the many I checked. As it was the first time I drove to Malacca, my impression from the location map given on the hotel webpage and other street directories was that this is a very rundown and out-of-the-way budget hotel. I was pleasantly surprised when we reached the hotel. With all the stopovers along the way, it took me appr. 4 hours to get there from my home along the Northeastern part of Sin travelling at btw 90kph to 110kph. W/o the stopovers, I would est. about 21/2hrs of travelling time. The hotel is not diffcult to get to provided you have someone beside you looking out the window. Otherwise, even with the road directory from the websites, you may have to go round the place a number of times to locate it. Reason is that this is not a stand-alone hotel, it is like a 3 storey terrace house at the cross junction of Jalan Bendahara and Jalan Abdul Mushi. Located in the heart of the city, it is very convenient to get anywhere. Problem is like many cities in Malaysia, many streets are one-way only and once passed, the returning part can get a little tricky at certain places. The rooms are very clean. Many 2 or 3 stars hotels I have stayed in do not come close in terms of cleanliness. Even self proclaimed 4 stars hotels with more facilities are run down and insects infested. Not this one. It is clean, smoke-free, good noise insulation from the streets, fuss-free. Perfect for just staying the night. Carparking is open-air across the road. It is fenced up and guarded in the night, so is reasonably safe. I got a triple-room (one with 3 single sized beds), which is meant for 3 persons, but squeezed my whole family of 4 adult, 2 children (early teens) in it. The staff are very friendly and speaks English well. The old dude,as someone from an earlier review had written is in fact the owner. He is Ricky, a friendly chap, very helpful and knowledgeable with directions to even the very remotest ones (I asked about Ayer Salak, which was not listed anywhere on any street directories and I got there, many thanks to his pointers). I offered to pay him for the additional breakfasts as we were only entitled to 3, but he refused to accept. An earlier review talked about the unavailability of lifts. But what do you expect from a such a price! In any case, both my parents, nearly 80 yrs old, have no problems climbing the stairs (common, the highest is only 3 storey!). If you want a reasonably prized, nice cozy place, fuss and frills-free, with very personalised service, just to spend the night in the heart of Malacca, this is almost as perfect as it can get. If you are looking to be cooped up in the hotel room the whole day and be pampered with all the frills that come with a 4 or 5 stars hotel, such as fridge, safe, TVs with international channels, swimming pools, restaurants, spas, room service etc... go elsewhere, this is definitely not the place for you.
