We booked this hotel thinking the extra money would be worth it. It was not. The room was comfortable, but the restaurant service was just ok, swimming pool was gone, and the work out facility was moved to 2 small conference rooms next to the smoking lounge. I had higher expectations for an InterContinental property; this did not meet them.

Overnighted here at the beginning of a southern African adventure - we flew from New York to Joburg (through Dakar) and stayed the night before carrying on to Namibia the following morning. Generally, the hotel was excellent. Our room was spacious, modern, well-appointed and clean and the staff was courteous and helpful. We were on our honeymoon, and received complimentary champagne and a lovely room high up in the front of the hotel with a nice view. Dinner at the restaurant was very good and service was fine if unremarkable (especially when stacked against any other airport hotel dining experience).

Others may have mentioned this, but note that as of our visit, the exercise room and top floor with viewing lounge is under renovation and when we wanted to exercise we had to do so in a tiny conference room where they had installed a couple of treadmills/stationary bicycles. Also, I was unable to access my yahoo email account from their computers in the business center - for some reason it kept getting blocked by their virus program - although other guests with non-US yahoo accounts had no trouble so perhaps it was a temporary problem with US Yahoo. The front desk staff was very helpful, if unsuccessful, in trying to remedy the problem.

Overall, this is a lovely hotel and top-notch for an airport hotel at an airport that is somewhat removed from the city. Ultimately, for most travelers it will be a question of economy and convenience - it's certainly not cheap, but it was simple for us to catch our 6:30am flight out the following morning and a nice comfort in the middle of a looong trip.

We had an overnight layover and the hotel worked out perfect for us. Not knowing Johannesburg and not having a lot of time, we booked a room at the Intercontinental. It is within safe walking distance from the terminal. Hotel is upscale and surprisingly nice. We highly recommend this hotel for an overnight stayover, especially if you arrive at night and don't want to travel around Johannesburg getting to a hotel as most are nearly an hour from the hotel.

This is an extremely nice hotel attached to the Johannesburg Airport. In fact it’s probably one of the nicest hotels I’ve ever stayed in (nicer than most hotels in America). It was very modern with a luxurious bathroom. The beds were soft and comfortable. For three people the room was small, but for 2 it would have been fine.

After 10 days in East Africa, this hotel was a much needed break. We really wanted to stay here longer, but we had an early plane to catch.
