“Nice place, but nothing special”

The Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa

Nice resort, but nothing too exceptional. I was expecting a WOW for the money we spent. My husband is a golfer and he enjoyed the courses. My kids loved the pool.

We were there during school vacation week. Not enough staff poolside and certainly not enough chairs and umbrellas.

Room was very clean and the front desk staff was awesome.

Service at the Grill by the golf course was painfully slow. Not great when you have a set tee time. The resort could use a family friendly restaurant. I was not comfortable taking our kids (8 and 9) into a restaurant where the steaks started at $48.

If you are a golfer and you are looking for a place to play while your family relaxes at the pool then you will be pleased with your choice.

“Nice Resort, Too Expensive, Some Problems in Transportation”

The Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa

I stayed at this resort during a business conference. While it was very nice for the most part, at over $300 per night it was not worth the amount paid. I would never stay here if I was paying for it. Nonetheless, I'll provide an thorough breakdown of my experience at this resort.

Accommodations:
The resort itself is well maintained and relaxing. The hotel room was very comfortable with nice bedding and bath supplies. The pool had a small water fall and was very nice. The ground were meticulously kept. The only small complaint I had about the room itself was the rediculous high price for Internet connectivity ($16/day). I found out late in the week that they do offer free wireless internet service in the public areas near the pool, but not in the rooms.

Service:
Housekeeping did an excellent job! They provided a bed turn-down service in the evening where they laid out a robe for you, fill the ice container, turn on soft music, closed the blinds, and left you a couple gourmet chocolates on your bed.

The front desk personnel were great too. When I asked for wake-up calls, they were on-time, personal calls (not a recording) from a friendly voice. Very nice. The front-desk and guest services staff were both courteous and helpful.

The transportation department was terrible! I had numerous problems with them. I reserved transportation to and from the airport through them. When I arrived at the airport after a long flight, I contacted them to be picked up. They sent a car to pick me up. I was unaware that they were picking up another person on my flight with this same car. When his luggage was lost, they made me wait over 1 hour and 15 minutes while he took care of his luggage issues rather than sending another car to pick him up. So it took me almost 2 hours to get from the airport to the hotel, which is typically about a 30-35 minute ride. This made me miss my conference registration that evening. At the end of the week, I had a late flight out of Phoenix. They wanted to lump me together with another group of travelers that were going to the airport together for an earlier flight, rather than send another car later. They would not provide a later car for me to go to the airport because they said that this was their last driver for the night. I had to get one of my colleagues who rented a car to take me to the airport. Clearly, the transportation department had the philosophy that I was there to serve them, not the other way around. My advise... save yourself the headache and get your own taxi or rent a car.

Food:
I ate at Grill on the Greens, since I was told that this was the "casual" restaurant. (The other restaurants were supposedly more expensive.) I paid over $40 for a very small salad, butterflied chicken breast that was battered and fried, and some butternut squash with rice. This was the cheapest thing on the menu. The food was good but the portions were very small and it was very expensive for what I got!

I ordered room service two nights just because I didn't want to go out for dinner. The total cost of a hamburger and fries? $28 including service delivery charge and gratuity, I didn't even order a drink.

Other ammenities:
They seemed to have a nice golf course though I didn't get to play. The tennis courts were nice and they rent racquets for $7 and the also sell tennis balls. The fitness center had good equipment including treadmills, elipticals, bikes, a variety nautilus weight machines, free weights, dumbells, etc. There were individual LCD TVs in front of most of the cardio-type machines that you could plug in headphones and listen to TV or radio. They also had fresh towels available. I used the fitness center a few nights and I was very pleased with it.

Overall, this is a nice resort, just too expensive in my estimation. I could find a nice tropical golf resort near a white sand beach in the Caribbean or Hawaii for these prices. But if this sounds like something you would like, go for it! Just plan your own transportation.

“Great Resort!”

I stayed at the Wigwam Resort during the Super Bowl weekend. I was there to work the event. I didn't really get to enjoy the resort as much as I wanted to, but the staff was excellent!! From the front desk, to the bellmen, the staff on the grounds. I was turned around my first morning there and one of the groundskeeper showed me the way back to the front desk. What a wonderful place to stay.

“This is CLASS”

The Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa

This resort, with all of it's history, was very modern in so many ways. From the check-in to the check-out, we were treated like gold. We visited over Thanksgiving so there were many "groups" and families, but my sister and I were still very comfortable. The bars and restaruarnts were pretty high priced, but food-wise, we felt we got our money's worth.

Our only disappointment was the bar that was "in the hallway" outside the Arizona Kitchen. The staff were young and a bit loud, and I didn't feel like ti reflected the class of the remiander of the resort. Being the holiday, it may be that they were a bit short on quality staff.

The best part was the "golf cart boys" that would arrive at our villa and take us wherever we needed to go on the grounds. It was chilly and having that service was quite nice....

In summary, a great classy resort, and the the villa's are very discreet and private, with nice front and back patios, and large rooms. The grounds are exquisite....I would recommend this resort to anyone without a regard to budget....

“Could use some work.....”

The Wigwam Golf Resort & Spa

My husband and I stayed here during the holidays, had booked a deluxe suite for 259.00..It was very spacious but really needs a lot of improvement. First off there was this smell (Room 255)..it seemed very strong, my husband said it smelled kind of musty like an old building, I thought it smelled like a dog or cat had been in it.. Then I noticed in the corner of the room behind the television they had a big air freshener unit which led me to believe there was an on going problem.. After being in the room for a while, you kind of got used to it until you left for a few hours and returned.

This suite is huge, with a fireplace but it needs artwork! The walls were virtually empty with only a few pictures scattered but it really made the whole place seem empty. Also connecting doors on both sides of the suite so you could hear your neighbors just like they were in the room. At one point I was whispering as I felt funny knowing the neighbors could hear my conversations as I could theirs.

In the small kitchen area they have a coffee pot with Starbucks coffee which was nice, but only styrofoam cups instead of regular ones.. One day after I had made the coffee realized housekeeping didn't leave new ones so instead of calling for some just poured the coffee out. Also, they have a mini bar with bottles of wine but no wine glasses.. I called room service to have some sent up and specified for red wine, and they showed up with these little glasses used for cordials... For it being a suite, I would expect them to have these types of items available..

It was pretty chilly weather wise so we didn't use the pool but I bet it's great during the warmer months. We ate at the Arizona Kitchen...very good! Didn't eat at Red's Steakhouse but did enjoy cocktails in their lounge on the evenings the Kachina lounge in the hotel was closed. I love the exterior areas, so well kept and they had a very cute Christmas setup in front of hotel. I would like to return to this hotel in the future..we had stayed here in 2004 and had just a regular room which in my opinion seemed nicer than the suite.....
