I just got back from a wonderful family vacation in this fabulous city. My husband, a frequent traveler, loves the Sheraton brand, and this is why we chose to stay at this particular hotel. It turned out that we were able to book 2 adjoining rooms using points, so please keep this in mind when reading my comments.
The hotel is very conveniently located just a block away from Calle Florida, a very lively pedestrian street full of shops, cafes, and street vendors and performers. Taxis were always available except for on New Year's Eve (see below), and across the street there are several banks and a pharmacy. Several cafes where you can have breakfast are located very close by. We did not use public transportation, but noticed that many buses stopped right at the corner. Other reviewers mentioned the other Sheraton hotel in Buenos Aires, but the Libertador is much more conveniently and centrally located.
We were promised 2 adjoining, non-smoking rooms. That is exactly what we got. Upon arrival, 1 room was ready and we were able to freshen up there before stepping out to explore a bit before official check-in time. The check-in process was smooth, easy and friendly. We were also given a late check-out, no problem.
The rooms had refrigerators and flat panel LCD TV's. They had recently been updated and renovated, so the condition was very good, clean, modern and spacious. The bathroom was above average in design and, in particular, the shower head was one of those rainforest type fixtures- very nice! The rooms were located on the 16th floor, which is considered their club floor, although there were none of the club floor amenitiies that are usually offered at other Sheratons. There was little or no street noise even though the windows faced a very busy street, Avenida Cordoba.
The hotel itself has a pool and small gym, but after the first day we really didn't have the time to use them.
One serious problem there was with the elevators. Out of 3, only 2 were working, and I got stuck in 1 of them, so it was only kindof working. The hotel was full and very busy. The Australian and South African athletes participating in the Panamerican Games were staying there during our stay, so there was a lot of action throughout.
Before leaving for the trip, I had tried to contact the concierge by e-mail, but never got a response back. While there, all of our concierge related questions were answered by the front desk staff. I may be wrong, but my impression is that the hotel had no dedicated concierge working, at least not during our stay. We were even given some wrong information concerning reserving a car in advance for New Year's Eve- we were advised that finding a cab would not be a problem, only to find that there were no cabs, cars, drivers, etc. to be found anywhere! By some miracle, we were able to stop a cab going by and the very nice driver even agreed to bring us back, showing up promptly when he said he would. Every driver we had after that told us that it is a well known fact that taxis are scarce on New Year's Eve in Buenos Aires. We were inconvenienced by this misinformation, and if the hotel staff had been better informed, something like this would never have happened.
So, my advice to anyone considering a stay here- you can expect friendly, welcoming staff who are still developing their ability to deal with a very heavy tourist clientele, and a generally comfortable and well kept property that is very conveniently located.
