“Very disapointing”

Park Tower

Nov 13, 2007

The Park Tower was a great disapointment. I stayed there for 5 days in early November 2007 for business purposes. The location is great but that is about it. While trying ( and charging for the bad try!!) to be a first rate hotel , the staff of the hotel really comes short. My trip was booked quite late and I had to pay full fare ( USD 360/night) for what ended up to be just an average hotel. The service was pathetic. There was always a long wait at the main door for taxis early in the morning. On the Saturday afternoon while the business center was open, I could not find anyone to give me the password to use internet on one of the computer of the business center. At night I would phone to get a wake up call and nobody, I really mean NOBODY would answer the call either at the wake up call center, at the concierge or at the reception. I literally had to call 6 or 7 times to talk to someone, and that is everynight
. Dry cleaning is outrageously expensive( USD 14.00 for a shirt) and the service is barely average. The day I checked out at 8.30 am there was no clerk at the desk for at least 20 minutes.Bell boys were running around to find someone( we were at least 8 people waiting). One day I had guest for breakfast only to discover that the rate per person was almost USD 30.00 . Those are New York or London prices. I have been traveling and living in Latin America for 20 years. I have stayed in very good hotel ( such as the Ritz Carlton Chile and the Four Seasons or JW Marriott in Mexico). The Park Towers charges NY city rates and offer absolutely nothing for it.
I could go on forever but I am sure you get my point. If you have a very cheap rate and low expectations, the location is good and the hotel is clean.

“Only the best”

Park Tower

My wife and I were guests at the Park Tower from Oct 9-16 and can honestly say that it was the best hotel experience we have ever had. After an 11 hour direct flight from DFW, we arrived via private car to the hotel at 10 AM. Upon entering the front doors of the tower we saw a glimpse of what we would call our home for the next week. Check in took all of 5 minutes, including upgrade to a preferred room, 2059 b/c of SPG Gold. Shown to our room by our butler, on whom we relied heavily during the stay, we were pleasently satified with the appointments. The room was quite large (as are all of the few connecting rooms, king) with dual sinks, shower, and separate bath. The view was perfect of St. Martin Park and Avienda Leander N. Alm, as well as the city skyline. In response to the comments of two other posts: BA is proud of the fact it was planned with large avenues, traffic is to be expected--but with the high floor (windows open) the noise was not noticable; the **59 rooms are opposed to the service elevators which were also not noticable. B/C of the hotel design the guest elevators do not affect room noise.

I commend the excellent service of every employee of the hotel from the operator (which forwarded all incoming calls to my local cellular), the concierge and his colleagues, the butlers (who amazingly knew when we left the property to return laundry, restock our frig, or deliver a nighttime treat), to the doorman who was always handy with a smile, greeting, or light.

Having traveled the world extensively and stayed at many 5 star properties I can say that we were more satisfied with our stay at the property than any other elsewhere. And, we will return to the city on our next trip to South America to stay again. So far as location is concerned, it cannot be beat. You are centrally located for an inexpensive fare to la Boca, San Telmo, a walk up Santa Fe or Florida, or a short trip to Palermo Soho. If you are going to BA for the first time, I definitely recommend this property, staff, and location to help with the immersion.

“The best city hotel i have stayed in”

Park Tower

From the moment you enter the marble lobby and experienced the courteous service you know you are staying in a very classy hotel. The rooms are spacey and well equipped, internet is free and the breakfast is decent. To give an example of just how good the service is I was working out in the gym and the guy working there approached me and offered me help with a wind down stretch. Ive stayed in 5 star hotels all over the world but never have i encountered such no strings attached service. This is a true 5 star hotel.....

“a sleepless night in Buenos Aires”

Park Tower

You don't expect an expensive 5 star hotel to place you in a room blighted by lift noise when you have booked months in advance and when they have other rooms available, but Park Tower did just that. Ok so they moved us next morning after we complained but it should never have happened.
Apart from that the hotel is what you would expect from an international Sheraton:the rooms are no better and no worse and the public areas also conform. But the pool and gym are in the adjoining Sheraton despite the Park being billed as the luxury side of the hotel. Excellent bell boy and concierge service plus a generous and reasonably cooked breakfast almost redeemed our sleepless night.
Location is noisy being right on a busy square with several lanes of traffic streaming round, but its near Florida and most of the sights and a short taxi ride to Recoletta. But next time I would stay in Recoletta anyway.

“Nicest Hotel Room in Buenos Aires”

Park Tower

5 of 5 stars
New York

I was lucky enough to go to Buenos Aires on the company expense account and they put me into the Park Tower, which is one of the nicest Sheraton business properties I have visited.

The Park Tower and an excellent, but less upscale, Sheraton are connected and both attached to the convention center. The hotels have separate entrances.

You clearly get very quickly that the Park Tower was the former Four Seasons (I was told) and that Madonna stayed here while filming Evita. The entire lobby is marble with an elegant lounge overlooking the lobby. The staff/guest ratio is off the charts considering every time I entered/exited the hotel there were at least four to five concierge types observing and assisting with questions.

The rooms were absolutely amazing. Fine moulding and oversize rooms provided an elegant, relaxing feeling with views of the port. The bathrooms were also completely done in marble with separate shower and oversize bathtub. Both the shower and toilet/bidet had their own door for privacy if someone else was using the vanity area. And the shower..wow, the "rainfall"-type showerhead and plenty of room for two if you should be so lucky. (Please note that I stayed in a standard room, so all of this comes with every room from what I can tell!)

In terms of location, as mentioned it is on the Northeast egde of Plaza San Martin. The hotel is across the park from the large Retiro Train station that serves cities outside Buenos Aires in case you are interested in a day trip. In addition, by crossing through Plaza San Martin it will place you right on the Northern start point for the shops on Florida St, which is one of the primary shopping areas in the city.

In terms of access to the trendy locations of Palermo, Recoleta and Puerto Madero, those are likely best reached via very inexpensive taxi ride (at the most $5 to reach these areas). Staff is very good in hailing taxis for pickup at the entrance, but be aware that just like any other large city, getting a cab on Thursday, Friday or Saturday nights will take more time than usual.

I have stayed in about a half-dozen hotels in this city, and while I have not stayed at the Four Seasons or the new Hyatt, this by far is the best one I have stayed in. However, this hotel is likely out of reach for the frugal traveler as most daily rates are over $300 per night.

For those few who view this forum who are concerned about security, this hotel should definitely meet your concerns as there are usually 3-4 security staff in the lobby at all times observing who enters and who gets on the elevators.
