Wow, it sounds like some grumpy reviewers have stayed here recently. I found this little hotel to be quite charming, thanks in a large part to the very friendly and helpful staff. Yes, it's a walk to town, but a lovely walk. (And it's closer to 10 minutes than 20 if you take a shortcut recommended by the hotel staff.) When we didn't feel like it we just spent the $2 USD on a cab.
Rooms are not high-end, but that's not really the point. This is a country inn, not a Ritz Carlton. You're up a hill from the lake, but since you're not going to swim in it (there are iceburgs floating in it, for crying out loud), it was close enough for me. We enjoyed drinks on the outside deck overlooking the lake. Hotel restaurant is fine, but there's much better eats in town. We did drink bottled water, but even at inflated hotel rates it was only about $1 USD per bottle.
Staff went out of their way to help arrange a glacier tour. We had to pay in cash and didn't have enough with us, and we were leaving to spend two days in El Chalten. We were told, "no problem, just pay us when you get back in town." That kind of service made our stay delightful.
