Where to begin? My husband and I were gifted with a week at the Sedona Summit by my stepfather who did a time share exchange through Interval International over July 4th, 2008. He exchanged a very high end 2 bedroom unit in Park City, Utah for credit toward this one bedroom and in no way was it a good exchange.
Our issues included the following:
• When we arrived on July 4th at 4:30pm, there was a huge line and it took us over an hour of standing in line before we got checked in.
• After getting our room assignment, we were asked to step to the concierge desk to “pick up our parking pass”. This was the opportunity to press us to attend a time share sale. The parking pass is not necessary for the resort.
• When we finally got to our 1 bedroom, which was attached by a lock off door to a studio, we found a 7 year old boy in our bathroom sobbing. He had been playing in our unit – as the lock off door was unlocked between us and the studio unit, and had bloodied his nose. His grandmother, mother and father were all in our unit with him and wouldn’t leave for about 10 minutes while they attempted to clean both the child and the bathroom up. Fortunately, he was all right, but they left the bathroom a mess.
• We were in one of the older units which backed up against Highway 89A, which made sitting out on our patio loud and unpleasant due to the amount of truck traffic.
• There was no internet access in the units, despite the claims otherwise.
• When we checked in, maintenance and housekeeping on the unit was clearly spotty:
o Vanity light, tub overhead and closet lights were burned out;
o One of the hinges on the door on the TV cabinet was broken and did not close or retract properly;
o Patio furniture was smeared with paint and stained;
o Kitchen items were missing including:
Oven mitts
Soap for washing dishes
Dish towels
Missing glassware
o We were supposed to have our unit cleaned on the Tuesday following our check in, but that never happened.
o A bag of trash sat outside our unit for 4 days next to a supplies cupboard and was never picked up. We finally threw it away.
o Supply cupboards were unlocked which allowed us to refresh our own towels and supplies, but does this really make sense?
o We were the daily recipient of a USA today newspaper, which was great for us – but when our neighbors beside and below us moved out, those units continued to receive papers and they piled up for several days.
• Even the sales staff indicated that the units we were staying in "weren't really maintained" although some of the other units were much more high end.
• The concierges, while pleasant, seemed to only direct us to specific places in town. We consistently received bad advice about where to eat. Perhaps they are only allowed to recommend specific places in town with ties to the resort.
We have stayed at a variety of timeshares and this one has to be the worst in memory. TrendWest, which is not touted as highly as Diamond Resorts, does a much better job of maintenance and organization in their units. The staff here just seemed tired and cranky and couldn’t seem to get ahead of the issues. Would never go back.
Pros: Nice linens, nice towels, adults only pool, good location in West Sedona.
