Just came back from ocean manor last week. It was my first time to the Dominican Republic and would love to go back. The people there are great and very friendly. The resort was great, very quaint and personal, got to know and hang out with other guests. The drinks everyday at happy hour were great and so was the food. We did not get the meal plan, even though we ate there many times, this way you can go and sample other restaurants in Cabarete. In Cabarete we ate at The Blue Restaurant which is directly on the beach. It was recommended to us by several people. The ambience is great, the tables are set on the beach with candlelight, it is awesome. The food is okay, expected it to be better for the price. The resort is very clean and the staff is great. You get all long distance calls free and internet, this was great. We walked from the resort on the beach every night to get to Cabarete. It is about a 30 minute walk, very safe and beautiful. Like I had read you have to watch out for the timeshare sharks on the beach. They will tell you they are having a happy hour party at their resort and you can come and drink for free and tour their resort. We almost went when we realized they were selling timeshares, just tell them you have already been and they will leave you alone. The resort has tours, you can usually talk them down about $10.00 from the price they give you. When you go into town, Cabarete, there are several tour companies and they were cheaper than the resort price. We took 2 tours that were great. The Jeef Safari Tour which we paid $50.00 for. They take you to see the countryside and to see and climb 7 waterfalls. What they do not tell you (even at the resort) is that you have to be physically fit and can hurt yourself climbing the falls. They are very slippery and you have to be a good swimmer. Once you're on the falls, you cannot change yr mind and get out, you have to go thru it (no turning back). It was a very exciting and scart experience, don't think I would have done this tour if I knew this (almost everyone on the tour said this because it was hard to climb the falls), but in the end it was a great experience. The other tour we took wa the Blue Lagoon tour which we bought in town for $50.00 also, I think the resort does not offer this tour. It took you to 3 different beaches for swimming , and a natural blue lagoon fresh water spring. This was an excellent tour, well worth the $. One of the beaches was Playa Grande, which is beautiful. Our taxi driver was Toni Jimenez, great friendly guy, all the taxi cab drivers were very nice and polite. They all charge the same so you do not have to worry. It you do not want to take a tour, they will be glad to drive you around and show you the sites, very cheap and safe. All in all we all had a great time and are already planning to go back.
