We have just returned from the casa marina beach and have had an amazing holiday.
On arrival you are welcomed with a fruity cocktail while you check in, our room wasn't ready and so we got upgraded free of charge to a bigger room. The rooms are a good size and have everyhing you need. Some people wern't happy with their rooms initially but after being moved were happier. I think it can be hit and miss as the rooms could do with a lick of paint so maybe some are more in need than others. We loved ours though. Their are 3 pools and two beaches so a good view is almost guaranteed.
The food was fantastic. 2 buffets different themes every night, mexican, italian and seafood all really nice especially italian which gets booked up quick. Lunch time had two buffets and 2 snack bars which had burgers, pizza, chips, fish, salad, chicken wings etc... Breakfast was just what you would expect cooked stuff, breads, toasted sandwiches, cereal etc...
The resort is really big and you can vary what you do every day just by going to different pools, beaches, rock pools. There are quieter places and busy activity pools so choice is yours. The pools do get busy but we always found sunbeds. AT weekends the resort is full of locals who save up all year to come for two days and so they really make the most of it but all good fun. Sosua is good for a walk round, you get pestered but you just have to say no. some good bars and restaurants if you fancy a break from the hotel. Baileys especially good and really cheap. We had 2 lobster, cocktails, beers, starters and came to about about £30.
We went on a few trips through thomson, white water rafting which was fantastic, puerto plata city tour which is worth it just for the cable car up the mountain and the magical nights bravissimo show at ocean world which was dinner, show and casino. The best night of the holiday by far!!
The staff are all really friendly, it does help if you tip. The bar staff will let you get as many drinks at a time as you want and the cocktail list is good to work your way through. I can't understand the bad reviews as I couldn't fault the hotel it was amazing. A lot of the higher star hotels in puerto plata whcih we saw when picking people up for trips were in the middle of nowhere and so you were tied to the resort which isn't the case with casa marina. I would go back tomorrow and would say to anyone who is booked don't worry at all.
