“brothel/boring”

Sosua Bay Club

Jun 3, 2008
2/4 found this review helpful

this is a 4* brothel, there wasnt many guests, 14 british, about the same in dutch.some americans. from thursdays-sundays the local people were allowed in,along with prostitutes which were very public in what they were doing, men touching underneath the woman, swapping prostitutes, there was a uncomfortable feeling everyday, they stared at you,as if you were the ones that should be in the hotel.
the entertainment was poor, a show everynight for 45min,a singer 3 times per week, who sang the same songs repeatedely. that was it, nothing in the day,and all was over by 10.30pm. not what it says in the brochure.
i have read some reviews and some people have had a good time, maybe its when you travel. but as far as im concerned along with all the british guests that was there the same time as me, experienced the same, and we are all writing to complain, and are all in contact with each other.
if different times of the yr are different, with locals, prostitutes, entertainment then it should say in the brochure and travel agents should advise you of this before booking.
discusting, what shame, nice food, clean, views of beach. just spoilt every minute.

go to the casa marina or playa dorado if you want a good holiday.

“BEST EVER”

Sosua Bay Club

5 of 5 stars
Hartford, CT
Apr 22, 2008

Me and my friends had just returned from a vacation to this hotel the staff since the minute we walked in the door were excellent Wellington, Pamela, Baby Face, Pupy DJ, Carlos bartender this is just to name a few but everyone treated us excellent. The food was great the buffet one of the best buffets I ever been too. The nightly show was very entretaining they also had live music on the wknds. There were also a few clubs out on the small town they were OK but inside the hotel there was plenty of entretaining they had original drinks prepared just for that night. The pool area was always been taking care of. There were plenty of employees always walking around cleaning the pool area. Employees were more than happy to take your pix for you (were i been to other hotel's were you have to beg someone to take your pix) The rooms were clean the only problem I found with the rooms not enough towels but we called the front desk and they always send someone right away with more towels. Overall I will definietly go back to this hotel and I will recomed it to anyone that asks.

“So much fun!”

Sosua Bay Club

My friend and I just returned from an amazing trip to The Sosua Bay Club. We fell in love with this place and had a very difficult time leaving.
From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we left we were treated very well! The staff at this resort are fantastic. Kobe, Santos, BABYFACE...just to name a few. They always greeted us with huge smiles and it was sad to say good-bye.
The evenng shows were very entertaining, and the animation staff were always making us laugh. The local bars were great for dancing and a nice change from resort life.
The food was great...early morning omlets, fabulous buffets and late night burgers. We ate at the Italian Resto one night and it was great as well.
The beach and pool were just what we needed to cool off from the hot, hot sun. What else can we say? We recommend this resort to anyone who likes to have fun.
Also a thank you to the GM and the other supervisors for making our trip memorable!
WE LOVE SOSUA BAY!

“I Survived Sosua!”

Sosua Bay Club

Apr 15, 2008

I Survived Sosua!

Sosua Bay resort is not the greatest, but is surely not the worst. Forgetting the 4-star rating and remembering how much you paid will help you to appreciate what it has to offer. After all, it's your hard-earned vacation and you deserve to be happy.

Compared to a 4-star resort in cancun Mexico I've been to, I would rate Sosua Bay 2.5. Even though it's not that old, the hotel look a bit worn out and rusty. I personally don't like the Jelly Bean coloured wall, the orange, blue and green decor, but they keep room fairly clean. I heard rooms in some other hotels has mold and smells, I am happy we didn't see that in Sosua Bay.

There are some rooms nicer than others in this hotel (does not include Victorian House), but the front desk will tell you they are all the same. Be happy if everything works in your room, we experienced broken hair dryer, shower head cover hanging out, and occasionally clogging bathtub in our room (we stayed at 4th floor of building 4). Try to take shower some time other than in the morning, otherwise you will have a better chance to get cold water only. For the fear of the large number of stairs we didn't do room exchange. By the way, it doesn't matter what requests you put in your application, they will randomly give you a room at the first night and allow you to exchange it the next day, or the day after if they don't have YOUR room for you the next day. The good things are: it's clean, nice view, and a comfortable bed.

Different than other places, this resort is built on the cliff. As a result, it has several levels and a lot of stairs. It's surely not widely spread. The space is limited, no garden for walk around. The pools, restaurants, hotel buildings, are all located (layered) in a small area. At the bottom level, there is a 20-meter long cement deck with stairs extended to the water, and a tiny private beach (about 1 1/2 living room size). From the side door of the resort, after climbing over a pile of rocks, you can land to the 0.5 kilo-meter long public beach. The beach is nice but you need to pay to rent chairs. We paid $2 per day per chair. The biggest flee market is at the back of the beach so you will hear people bargaining, vendors will come to you and try to sell you stuff . "No, Grasias" will keep them away.

The water is Crystal clear, you can always see fish if you do snorkelling. The colour of the water is extremely beautiful. The sand is soft and nice. Suggest not to go to the public beach on Sundays. All locals come on Sundays so it's crowded.

The pools are nice but the gym is a joke.

The food is great. I would rate the taste 4, presentation 3 and variety 3. We enjoyed the A La Carte dinners in both Mexican and Italian restaurants and were satisfied.

People are generally friendly. The front desk people are a bit defencive when we approached them with request (received too many complaints?) We were stopped by the VIP time-sharing rep for a couple of times, but refused him firmly that was it.

The weather was perfect during our stay, no rain at all!

We had a great time with the Outback Safari excursion! $79 per person, you will visit a local family, a local school, a fruit garden, Crocodile zoo, lunch and drinks are included, 20-minute swimming in a fresh-water river, boating down a creek to see the rain forest, 45-minute boogie boarding at the world famous wind-surfing Cabaret beach. Our tour guide JR had a great sense of humour and was very knowledgeable. Remember to bring some pencils and notebooks for the local kids if you plan to go to this tour. Bring a hat with you because the top of the truck will be open for quite a while.

I wouldn't suggest this resort to people that have weak knees (too many stairs). I wouldn't suggest this to anyone who seek for quiet get-away. With many people in a small area, and vendors at the beach, it would be hard to find your quiet paradise.

Young people come with their friends may enjoy it -- they do provide things that you may be looking for, unlimited drinks, good food, pools, sun, beach, spanish lessons, dance lessons, snorkelling, activities, night show etc.

People who want to experience local culture may like it -- it's just steps away from downtown, steps away from the flee market, the resort itself has signatures of DR -- the way it is built and managed. From the resort you can see a construction site and see how local people work.

Next time, I would prefer some place that is more spread, with longer, wider beach, newer buildings with similar building code as in North America, and some place that is not right in downtown. Of course, I may have to pay more.

Some facts:

Safe $20/week
Internet $5/hour (very slow)
beach chair on the public beach $2/day/person
Upgrade to Victorian House $20/person/night
Other stuff from the vendors -- divide by 4 of what they asked for, some people says 10
