“Tacky linens, basic hotel, exterior doors - you can do better at SFO”

This is one of the lower end options at SFO. I was booked here through United when we didn't make a connection. We (with a 10 year old) waited for 45 minutes for the shuttle huddled at SFO after midnight in the wind. The hotel has exterior corridors, which means one has to wander the halls open to the public. There were men lurking around the stairs in the parking lot while we were there. We went through the elevator. The corridors have bright lights, that shine in the rooms, around the curtains. The beds had questionable bedspreads, with a thin blanket. Neither, the sort of thing that is laundered between guests. We had breakfast at the cafe, which was no cheaper than the airport, but very good. I have stayed at SFO many many times (Westin, Doubletree, Sofitel, Crowne Plaza, Sheraton 4 points, Clarion etc.) and would recommend Hotelres.com (specifically for San Francisco) for finding good rates to better hotels. Hotwire is also very good at SFO, as is Priceline. There is no reason to stay at the Red Roof Inn, when for the same money one can do better for the same price or less.

“Great stay at reasonable price”

I stayed in this hotel even though I had all my appointments in downtown San Francisco, the reason being very good connections to the town by BART and substantial savings on daily rates as compared to hotels in San Francisco.
This hotel lived up to all the expectations. Very friendly staff, punctual shuttle service to the airport and clean rooms added to the comfort. I would definitely stay here again.

Having missed our flight to the East Coast, the airline offered this hotel with a voucher and I was very suprised and happy with things overall. The room was newly redecorated and clean and very nice. The shuttle was great and the dinner connected to the hotel offered the best breakfast I have had in years.

“Pleasantly surprised”

We were looking for a nicely priced hotel closed to San Francisco airport for just one night. Although it's a bit far if you're planning to visit San Francisco, we took advantage of the hotel shuttle to go to the airport and we caught the BART to go to the city. On the other end, since we wanted to catch an early flight back home, it made more sense to stay close to the airport. We were pleasantly surprised by the newly renovated rooms, with very comfortable beds and plenty of drawer space. Although there's no closet, there's an open area that has a railing with hangers. It had a nice pool, but we were not able to enjoy it. The reception area was clean and the staff was very friendly. They had an automatic coffee/latte/hot chocolate machine in the front desk that was very convinient as well. I don't usually expect a Red Roof Inn to be a place I would recommend, but without any doubt, this particular location was very desirable and would defintely do it again.-

“Don't Bother”

Red Roof San Francisco Airport

1 of 5 stars
northern california coast

I booked a room for two nights at the Red Roof Inn in Burlingame, CA because it was close to San Francisco International Airport. I knew it was a low end property, but we only needed a clean, comfortable place to stay for a couple of days before catching a flight out of San Francisco. My expectations were low, but the Red Roof Inn failed miserably at meeting those expectations.

Although the Red Roof Inn advertised that it had recently been remodeled, the rooms were small and dingy. There were stains on the carpeting and on the furniture. The rooms do not have a coffee maker or a hairdryer. We were able to borrow a hairdryer from the front desk. Apparently the property experiences plumming problems as the first time we flushed the toilet it threatened to overflow. A call to the front desk resulted in our being told we could borrow a plummer's helper. When we went to the front desk, we had to wait for another guest to return a plummer's helper for our use. (I'm not sure if the place only had one, or if the plumming problems were wide spread.)
The Red Roof Inn advertised internet access, which was wireless access through t-mobile (for $9.99 per 24 hour period). I paid the fee, but the connection was extremely poor. It was then that we learned that "inside rooms" can't connect through the wireless connection and we were moved to an "outside room." After going through the hassle of packing things up and moving rooms, the connection was no better in the "outside room." The wireless connection was so poor that we could only stay connected for 1 to 2 minutes at a time. It was very frustrating.

The Red Roof Inn failed to meet our most basic expectations and for $101 per night (not including taxes) we expected at least the basics. We will NEVER stay at a Red Roof Inn again.
