This is one of the lower end options at SFO. I was booked here through United when we didn't make a connection. We (with a 10 year old) waited for 45 minutes for the shuttle huddled at SFO after midnight in the wind. The hotel has exterior corridors, which means one has to wander the halls open to the public. There were men lurking around the stairs in the parking lot while we were there. We went through the elevator. The corridors have bright lights, that shine in the rooms, around the curtains. The beds had questionable bedspreads, with a thin blanket. Neither, the sort of thing that is laundered between guests. We had breakfast at the cafe, which was no cheaper than the airport, but very good. I have stayed at SFO many many times (Westin, Doubletree, Sofitel, Crowne Plaza, Sheraton 4 points, Clarion etc.) and would recommend Hotelres.com (specifically for San Francisco) for finding good rates to better hotels. Hotwire is also very good at SFO, as is Priceline. There is no reason to stay at the Red Roof Inn, when for the same money one can do better for the same price or less.
