This hotel is brand spanking new; in fact, there was a grand opening reception the day we checked in. The lobby is very tastefully decorated and the check-in process was quick and friendly. There is a small shop near the front desk for groceries. Also plenty of parking available.
The room itself is beautiful with wood laminate flooring in the kitchen area and high quality carpeting throughout the suite. We had a 2 queen bed suite and it was more than enough room for 2 adults and 2 small kids. The kitchen had a full-size fridge/freezer, 2 burner stove, microwave, and coffeemaker. All plates and silverware were provided. 2 flat screen TVs were in the room; one in the sitting room and the other in the bedroom. The bathroom was good sized with large, fluffy towels and Neutrogena products. Everything was clean, clean, clean. My only complaint about the bathroom is that the shower head is placed very close to the wall and can't be adjusted, so you have to stand right next to the wall to get sprayed adequately...but a very minor problem with all of the good things about the hotel.
Ethernet connections in the rooms are not free, but there is a 24 hour business center with free internet service.
The breakfast in the morning was one of the best free breakfasts I've ever had in a hotel-very well attended by the hosts, tons of variety (including breakfast burritos, ham, sausage, eggs, pancakes, and make-your-own belgian waffles)! There is a free dinner served M-Thurs which we did not partake in, so can't comment on that.
Pool is small/medium and heated, and there is a good-sized jacuzzi as well.
For those travelers staying here to go to Legoland, the drive is approximately 10 minutes and very easy.
Lots of restaurant options within the proximity of the hotel, but none within walking distance. TGI Fridays and Claim Jumper come to mind as the closest ones; the Carlsbad Premium Outlets are also close by.
A few things I think are pertinent are that the air conditioning unit was really loud and blew hard directly onto one of the beds; also relevant is that the hotel is located right off of Palomar Airport Road, which is a very busy, large road with a limit of 55 mph, so cars are loud and fast-I would recommend trying to reserve a room that does not face that road. In addition, the walls are thin, and we could hear the people above and next door to us very clearly. So...if you're a light sleeper, bring your ear plugs!
We reserved the room before the hotel had even opened and got a rate of $139/night. I think it's much higher now, but for the price we paid we got much more than we expected. I would stay here again, but don't know if I'd pay too much more with the brand new Hampton Inn open right next door.
