We spent the day touring spas in desert hot springs so we could plan a relaxing weekend for out-of-town parents. Hope Springs had been recommended by friends. What we found a desk person who was crinkle-nose condescending and seemed annoyed to help us. Maybe we weren't wearing the correct shoes or didn't have the right haircuts but for whatever reason, we didn't seem to pass muster in her eyes. If you feel the need to pass a coolness check with the help before booking a room, this is your place. If you want great facilities AND wonderful hosts, check out Miracle Manor, The Springs or The Highlander.

“Minimalist, zen, laid back”

We came here to avoid xmas in LA--only could book 2 nights as apparently lots of people do the same thing!! Chloe apparently makes dinner for the guests, she was cooking when we left this am, it smelled great!
Rooms are super minimalist-- no TV, no shampo/conditioner- but big bed, heater, robes, books and mags, cd player, and the lovely heated natural spring pools-- there are three ranging from a swimmable one to a very hot jaccuzzi.
I would have liked a room with a kitchenette as am vegan but we just ate at Native Foods in Palm Springs both nights- love their food. Breakfast was very nice-- breads, muffins, fruit, Nutella, coffee, tea. Guest seeemd 30 something couples, friendly, artsy, laid back. Had two treatments from Annaka, who is great-- Swedish ex model, very friendly and while the spa itself is hardly luxurious, her energy is great and the end results--relaxation, soft skin, zenned out brain-- totally worth it. I only wish they had some rooms with two beds--even two twins as opposed to the king-- my husband had a bad cold and he wanted to sleep elsewhere so as not to infect me and keep me up all night.
Overall, if you are looking for luxury, go to the Viceroy, but if you are looing for a quiet escape, pack your shampoo and hairdryer and head to Hope Springs!!

I loved the Hope Springs! Great rooms, great pools, cool staff, cool guests, nice views. It's one of these hotels that are chic but not posh, easy going but not negligent. I stayed there in October 2006 with my boyfriend, and we are desperate to stay there again some day!

“Loved Hope Springs”

My wife and I escaped to Hope Springs to celebrate our anniversary. We couldn't have made a better choice. The whole experience was extremely positive and memorable. The natural mineral waters in three separate pools, each a different temperature, were relaxing and invigorating. The pools were extremely clean and the range of temperatures provided a fine spa experience. The rooms are simple and clean, continuing the minimal modernist theme that you find throughout the hotel. The bed was extremely comfortable and the linens supremely nice. This is not a hotel with room service or an in house restaurant, but the European breakfast always got the day started the right way. There are a sprinkling of decent restaurants in Desert Hot Springs itself, but Palm Springs is such a short jaunt, so that if one needs variety or something fancy, it's well within reach. The room we had included a small fridge, so if one were eating simply, it would certainly be possible to not go out for much. The place was quiet and the pools were never crowded, but I would love to be at the hotel during the week when I'm sure it is even quieter. It would be nice to stay for a whole week sometime.

    • Liked — Very nice room, bedding, pools. No TV in room, so a very quiet retreat.
    • Tips/Secrets: — The rooms on the west side of the hotel get the morning sun first, so if you like sleeping in, choose the east side rooms.

Not fancy but quiet and relaxing. Soaking in the spas was great. If you need a quiet weekend or getaway to recoup, this is your place.
