As a frequent business traveler, I've had the opportunity to stay in many Hyatt properties in the US. I've stay at the Irvine, CA numerous times during the past few years. First with the good....the valet and front desk employees are always helpful and polite. The cafe is quick (although pricey) for a cup of coffee and pastry in the morning. Now for the improvement.....the rooms are terrible to say the least. They are extremely outdated and desperately in need of new carpet, linens, technology (TV, telephone), and furniture. Perhaps being very centrally located in Orange County has made management overlooked the need to update their rooms. Overall, I stay there because I "need to," not because I "want to."

I stayed at this hotel for a conference in February and thought it was very nice. My room was clean and well-maintained, with a lovely view of the mountains. The conference setup was very good. The hotel is nicely located in town, a short distance away from restaurants, shopping, etc. Also, the hotel will give you a free bike to take out for the day if you request it. I took them up on this and it was wonderful - 70 degrees in February is nice for a Buffalonian like me! The bike path is right around the corner from the hotel.

Overall, a very nice stay. I would definitely stay there again.

I was here for a conference. I arrived late at night and despite having reserved a non-smoking room was placed in a "smoking-room-that-had-been-deodorized." The fan had not been left on in the room and there was an overpowering smell of "deodorizer". There is too much traffic noise to leave a window open at night. No other room was available and I woke the next morning with a headache.
My second night was in a different room, non-smoking and less noticeably deodorized (who knows why they spray this horrible stuff in the rooms?!). The room was comfortable, the staff was accommodating and the food, even in large group meetings of 100s of people, was reasonably good. And at checkout the front desk cut the charge for my first night in half.

We got a room at the Hyatt Regency Irvine through a blind bid on priceline for $65/night. We wanted to spend my wife's birthday in Orange County (Disneyland, South Coast Plaza, and the Irvine Spectrum) and were happy with the Hyatt's location because it was right in the middle of everything.

The hotel is right off the 405 so it's location is easy accessible. It's close to the John Wayne Airport and a bunch of office buildings and had the feel of a business/convention center hotel. We noticed a bunch of groups and a lot of ballrooms for conventions/meetings.

The room was nice although the bathroom was small. The bed was comfortbable and the furnishings were adequate. It was a very comfortable room.

A minor drawback was the $13/night charge for parking. I understand that it is close to the airport and they don't want people parking and leaving there car there but it seems a little steep. I guess since it has a lot of business travellers they can get away with it since they pass that charge on to their companies but I really can't complain considering I didn't pay that much for the room anyway.

My wife left one of her jackets in the closet and when we called about 5 hours after check-out they told us that they had it and we were able to get it back without a problem. In the past I might have taken this for granted but I've been surprised how hard it is sometimes to get items we've accidentally left behind and it was refreshing to know they are on top of things in that area.

Also, the front desk staff was very polite and well trained. I've got nothing but good things to say about the Hyatt chain.
