I had somewhat of high expectations for this hotel, but overall it just didn't live up to it.

The locations is in the heart of La Jolla within walking distance to restaurants, shops, and the beach. The rooms were quite large with modern amenities and the bed was very comfortable. Continental breakfast offers a good variety and the quality was good.

I bet you now wonder how come it didn't meet up expectations? The first and most important reason for me was ambiance. I also realized that this varies depending on personal taste.

I just found it very weird, how the calm ambiance of the hotel seems very holistic, it's almost like you're walking in to a spa. But then I discovered they don't even have a spa room. The fact that all the rooms are in one floor is a bit weird to me. The staff are very nice and charming but they still weren't able to make me feel welcome. Cold is one word to describe the ambiance.

And then there are the little things...such as only one phone out of two was working in the room, and it's not the one next to the bed. We heard loud banging and drilling noise in our room, when we called to complain the staff was very polite on the phone but just told us that they dont know of any construction going on. The room card swipe for the garage door never seems to work, we have to wait sometimes 5 and other times 15 minutes to get into the garage. When we reported this to the concierge, again they were very polite and sweet but didn't offer any resolutions.

After seeing the Valencia hotel across the street, I think we'll give it a try next time we're there,

“Fantastic”

My wife and I have just returned from staying at the Hotel Parisi. Firstly the location; it is located right in the middle of La Jolla Village, within walking distance to all the shops, bars and restaurants. Most importantly the Pacific Ocean is only a 5 minute walk away. The rooms are quite spacious, very comfortable with a very large bathroom comprising of a separate tub and shower. The continential breakfast was very good with an excellent variety of cereals, fruits, breads and a hot dish.
Throughout our stay the staff were excellent, always friendly and helpful. We managed to get locked out of our room and they fixed this very quickly and even put a bottle of wine in the room to apologise. There was some modifications going on at the hotel this caused a minimum of distruption. In conclusion, it is the best hotel in La Jolla and La Jolla is one of the best places to visit in California. We can't wait to go back.

My husband, 4 year old and I stayed at the hotel parisi last Octob-er and loved it! The staff was friendly and helpfull-- they arranged a last minute pedicure at a nearby spa and gave us tips on restaraunts every night. The accomoadations are luxurious and property very well maintained. We stayed in the presidential suite and then an apartment and would go again in a heartbeat!

“Falls short of the mark!”

Hotel Parisi

3 of 5 stars
Glasgow, Scotland

Expected a lot from the Hotel Parisi. Alas, after staying there on holiday for 8 nights during early June, sadly, it did not live up to our expectations.

The hotel sells itself on a "Zen Like" ambience. We left utterly exhausted having had to endure disruptive street noise and nearby retail development contruction noise.

None of this was ever mentioned on the hotel website prior to booking. A disruption sign was up in reception which related to remodelling work on the hotel, which had already been undertaken, according to a member of reception staff.

We were in a partial sea view room (room14) which overlooked the busy Prospect Street. We encountered noise from large vehicles, re-supplying stores late at night (2300Hrs onwards) and early morning trash cart vehicles from 0700 hrs...unbelievable. Also, underneath the hotel there are a number of small retail units being remodelled. This too caused an excessive amount of noise from early morning and throughout the day!

Over the weekend period the noise levels increased as nearby bars emptied. We were awakened at 2am with excessive street noise from nearby! Totally unacceptable in an hotel of this standard.

The inclusive breakfast on offer was excellent. However. although the breakfast room staff were courteous and polite, they lacked the general overall skills necessary to handle the service.

6 out of the 8 morning's we attended for breakfast, we had to either ask for cutlery, crockery, juice or coffee. They never seemed able to anticipate further guests may be arriving for breakfast, nor replenish the buffet service, until asked. This does not give off a good impression of a Small, Luxury Hotel of the World, does it ?

Minor grips were that the entry/exit system to the garage did not work on several occassions. This again is a nuisance and troublesome. However, the hotel, in all fairness, did not charge us for parking fee's, when these problems were pointed out to them.

Our room had a lovely CD player and DVD system, which, we were unable to use, since the hotel had no small DVD or CD library available for guest useage.....amazing!

Finally, when checking out, we noticed that the front desk was covered in dust. Again, this does not leave a very good lasting impression with guests.

Overall, the Parisi staff were all friendly and helpful. However, as seasoned airline staff, who regularly travel the globe, we will not be returning or recommending the Hotel Parisi to friends, family or colleagues.

There are other fine hotels in La Jolla and nearby San Diego which are much more deserving of your well earned money.

Top tips: The 9/10 restaurant at The Colonial Hotel was streets ahead of other fine dining establishments in La Jolla, such as George at the Cove and Jacks, which, was a waste of money, in our opinion.

Also, try the local Thai restaurants and Karl Strauss Brewery, which provided lovely food, at very reasonable prices.

“Loved Hotel Parisi”

Hotel Parisi

5 of 5 stars
Salt Lake City

The accomodations were excellent, but it was the staff at the Parisi that made our trip complete. They went above and beyond their job descriptions by not only offering suggestions for our itinerary but by printing off directions for the each stop. Hotel Parisi is also just a block away from a beautiful section of the beach.
