“Great Location”

Renaissance Hollywood Hotel

This hotel is in a great location. It's located literally right on the hollywood Walk of Fame. Also close to Universal Studios (one subway stop away), Chinese Grauman Theatre, Kodak theatre etc etc....We could also see the Hollywood Sign from our hotel room . It is also connected to this minimall which has many stores such as Louis Vuitton, Sephora etc...the hotel is also located close to a tourist info booth, which was convenient because they helped to guide our stay as well as we bought our tickets to Disneyland and universal studios from there and they sell them cheaper. Our hotel staff was also quite helpful. They also have a Hertz rental on location which was convenient and they gave us a good deal. The only thing about the location of this hotel is sometimes at night there would be lots of shady people around, which for a tourist can be a little intimidating. So just be careful in the evening/night. Overall this hotel was great and a very convenient location.

“LOVED LOCATION ~ TIPS FROM OUR GREAT STAY!”

Renaissance Hollywood Hotel

May 27, 2008
11/11 found this review helpful

We just returned from a 3 night stay during Memorial Day Weekend. Although it was a holiday weekend, the hotel NEVER felt crowded at all. The staff always met our every need and were super nice. We would definitely stay here again. TIPS from our stay: 1) LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION - you can NOT beat where it is located - Kodak Theater, Hollywood Walk of Fame, Chinese Theater are literally just right at the door! ..... 2) PARKING: Park for $10 per day vs. $29 per day valet plus tips in the lot that is connected to the hotel in the Highlands Center - the parking garage elevator will take you steps away from the entrance on the 3rd floor 4) FOOD - The Highlands Center connected to the hotel has tons of options!! 5) TOURS - you can walk out the side of the hotel to the Highlands center and book ANY tour that you want - we were amazed how CLOSE everything was 6) ROOM LOCATION - request high level with view of the Hollywood sign!!! GREAT VIEW! ........ 7) SUBWAY - If you aren't renting a car - the subway is located right at the hotel and a great option for arriving from LAX

Enjoy your stay!! We sure did. Location can NOT be beat!! ........ They were also filming the HBO show "Entourage" when we arrived at the hotel on Friday night- how cool was that!! We saw the entire cast!!!

“Noisy Hotel”

Stayed here with my husband and thirteen year old daughter for two nights.I chose the Renaissance mainly because of it's proximity to the main Hollywood sights. We booked a suite - room 1312 - which had a great view of the city. Although not as I had requested the Hollywood sign. The bedrooms were very small and the decor strangely dated. When the sofabed was opened out it was right up against a cupboard - not what I had expected for $387 a night.Valet parking was$29 a night and was fast and efficient. At breakfast (not included in the rate) there was a large choice, all very good. My daughter particularly liked the rooftop pool, which she had all to herself.
On our second night we were woken at three in the morning by what sounded like drunken people having a party in their room. The screams and crashing and banging didn't stop for hours.Unfortunately I think this is always a possibility when booking a large hotel in a lively area. For this reason I would not stay at the Renaissance again.

“RichnLin's Hollywood Stay”

My wife and I stay at this property at least two to three times a year. We are also platinum Marriott members as we have four timeshare weeks through Marriott. We do not use our points as they are mainly used for international stays. However, with that in mind, this property is absolutely one of the finest available. The staff can not do enough for you. The valet service was also excellent. We never waited for anything. We always stay in Room 2005 or 2006 as 2005 faces the Hollywood sign and 2006 faces out over the city. We just came back yesterday, 5/12/2008, and again received the same excellent treatment. We planned to stay there a few months ago and had to cancel due to me having a knee complication. We canceled the reservation at the last minute and a few days later I received a note from the manager of the hotel stating that he was sorry that we had to cancel and hoped that I was feeling ok. What service! Also, the executive lounge is one of the finest Marriott has to offer. Our room was very spacious, clean and the staff was always knocking asking if there is anything we need. Absolutely no noise even though the hotel is right in the heart of Hollywood and right in the middle of all the action on the streets below. Just a wonderful hotel and the staff to match!

“Terrible Service and Serious Security Problems”

Renaissance Hollywood Hotel

May 9, 2008
7/8 found this review helpful

I stayed here twice for business purposes last month and had a terrible experience both times. The check-in staff were rude and unhelpful and seemed to have no idea what was going on. They lost my reservation, gave me the wrong standard room, didn't activate my key and then 'lost' several important messages that were left for me later in my stay.

The business facilities are terrible - old computers with slow 'pay as you go' internet connection that costs a fortune and repeatedly kept shutting down with credit on there which I couldn't get back once it switched back on. I lost about $40 over 5 days in this way.

During my stay, a male member of staff knocked on my door at 1am saying that he'd brought me the blankets I had ordered and tried to gain access to my room. I had NOT ordered blankets, but he wouldn't go away. I got woken up the same time the following night with a different male staff member saying he needed to come into my room to fix the broken mini bar that I'd reported. I had NOT reported this. This was all very dodgy and made me feel uneasy about staying there alone in future.

I was told on my 2nd morning that I couldn't eat breakfast as they'd closed the restaurant at 9am to set up for a private event. I was told that instead I could get a take-out breakfast box and eat it outside on the street, or pay for room service.

Finally, on my last night, there was a party going on in the room opposite me at 4am which spilled out into the hall. With loud music, people banging on my door, prank calling my room and shouting just metres away from where I was sleeping. I called security and reception several times and they refused to do anything about this. I then noticed that several guests at the party were Renaissance staff. This went on until 6am and when I complained to reception, they hung up on me.

I was quite frankly appalled by the problems and service levels of this hotel and would never stay there again. It is in a great location but is overpriced, run down, with rude staff and lapse security. Beware.
