“Great girlfriend getaway!”

Silverado Resort

4 of 5 stars
Walnut Creek, California
May 10, 2008

My best friend and I did a spa package here. It was a great deal. We spent the day at the spa and had several spa treatments. The room was great. It was large and had recently been remodeled. It had a kitchen, fireplace, living room, bedroom, etc. I would highly recommend this resort for a romantic getaway or a girlfriend getaway, as well as a family getaway!

“Nice place all-in-all”

Silverado Resort

4 of 5 stars
Orange County, CA
Apr 16, 2008

Stayed in a standard king room and found everything quite acceptable. Average size room but very clean and well-appointed. Yes, tube TV, but I'm not that spoiled (yet). Bed and linens were great. I thought the curtains provided adequate light blocking, but I’m not sensitive to that issue.

The staff at the hotel were very courteous and attentive. The place does have an old money feel to it and I definitely felt out of place in my shorts and t-shirt in the main building.

The pool area (actually 2 pools and a jacuzzi) was open and everything was fine there. I didn’t really explore the resort all that much as there was other things to do and I don’t golf or play tennis.

The grounds are well kept, but if you’re there on maintenance day it can get a little noisy for the better part of a morning. My room was a bit of a walk from the parking area but the grounds made it enjoyable.

There’s an add-on “resort fee” that was $20 on top of the room rate. I just hate these types of things as I feel they are deceptive pricing unless you can opt out of them (I didn’t ask if I could as I was intending on using the pool). There was also several additional resort taxes so the gov’t seems to get in on the act as well; if you’re concerned about cost, inquire as to the total price with all fees and taxes. The Saturday rate was also jacked up considerably. Fortunately, we got a nice block rate as I was there with a large group.

All-in-all, I liked the Silverado and would go back there.

“A good value”

Silverado Resort

4 of 5 stars
Newbury Park, Ca
Apr 12, 2008

Stayed here for two nights in early April. The accommodations are quite nice for the price (we paid $205 per night through Hotels.com)
as they are condos rather than just one room. We had a nice living room, deck and kitchen as well as a nice sized bedroom and decent enough bath....tub/shower combo was roomy. The only issue we had was nonexistent internet access in the room. It required a trip to their business center to access the internet. One night we did hear a rather loud motor noise, which was annoying. Turned out that was the wind machines running at the nearby vineyards protecting the grapes from a potential frost. But that would be no different than anywhere else in the valley on nights that might get below freezing. The wind machines are in all vineyards, and of course you're up there because of the wine, so who could really complain?? Silverado can't be held accountable for that. We didn't not use any of the amenities so I can't speak to those, but their Spa looked great from the outside.

“Wasn't that impressed....”

Silverado Resort

My best friend and I booked the Spa Girl package at the Silverado Resort and Spa to celebrate our (gulp!) 30th birthdays. We paid $546 per night for a one bedroom suite with two queen beds, 2 spa treatments per night, free breakfast and a free tasting at the William Hill Winery. When I think of a resort and spa I think of very lavish, contemporary rooms in outstanding hotels. Instead, the Silverado is made up of an assortment of short sprawling buildings that contain about 4 units per building. The unit contained a living room with fireplace, full kitchen, bedroom, double sink in bedroom and very small bathroom with a shower only. It was very clean but had not been updated for many years. It would probably be very good for a family that wants to stay for a week or two and cook some of their own meals. Not necessarily a bad place, but not my definition of a resort.

The free breakfast was amazing. The spa is very nice (especially compared to the "resort") but across the street from the units. The treatments were good, especially the massages. Our pedicure was OK, but the ladies who treated us had a wealth of local knowledge and suggestions that were worth it.

“Beware Travelzoo deal”

Silverado Resort

1 of 5 stars
San Francisco, CA
Apr 7, 2008

Beware the Wine Taster's Dream package deal advertised through Travelzoo. We purchased this deal for this past weekend and were unpleasantly disappointed.

The package promised a king room. We checked in around noon but didn't go to our rooms until around 5:30pm. Then, we found out that they had given us a room with 2 twin beds. When I called the front desk to let them know of the mistake, they told us there were no more king rooms available. What peeved me most is why they didn't warn us during check-in that they had to substitute our room.

Also, we were looking forward to using the pool, it was closed.

The picnic lunch at V. Sattui ended up being a $20 gift certificate to be used at their deli. This amounted to fighting the hordes and standing in long lines at V. Sattui and then "picnicking" on a sandwich each with one drink to share.

The free tasting at Artesa is really a buy-one-get-one-free.

I feel that the advertised package was misleading and I wanted to warn others not to have too much expectation.
