“Brief Stay at the Courtyard”

Marriott Courtyard Palm Desert

4 of 5 stars
San Diego, California
Jan 13, 2008

I stayed here for only one night while attending a conference a different hotel. I didnt have a lot of time to fully judge this hotel but I will give my opinion of my brief stay.

This is your typical Courtyard. Room was very clean. Bed was comfortable. Free Internet is always a plus when traveling on business. Available channels on cable was plenty. Hotel has pool and jacuzzi. Location is convenient to the I-10.

One issue was that the bathroom drain stopper was working properly. I had to take it out completely to allow the water to drain.

Otherwise hotel was fine for the purpose that I was in town for but I thought the rate of $180 with AAA discount was STEEP. It was high season travel for Palm Springs though.

I had the breakfast in the morning and I thought it was really bad and I ordered from the menu not the buffet. Potatoes were cold. Toast not really toasted. Bacon was burned beyond belief. Not worth the approximately $10 for breakfast. I shouldve went to some greasy spoon instead of the Courtyard Cafe. Service from the restaurant was fairly pleasant and the waitress was really nice but the food was shameful by Marriott standards.

“Great Renovation”

I have stayed at this hotel many times over the last few years and I must say the hotel looks great after their renovation. I was told this happened this past summer, new rooms, especially the new beds, very comfy. The lobby and restaurant look like new and even added a really convenient lobby computer free of charge. I was able to print my boarding tickets right there.

Thank you for the renovation.

“TOO SMALL FOR THE MONEY”

Marriott Courtyard Palm Desert

3 of 5 stars

I picked this hotel because it had a fitness center and its location. I have been to the Courtyard in MDR several times and the service is always excellent. My room here was too small for the money. It reminded me of a Days Inn. The location is good. Fitness center needs to be revamped. The breakfast was not bad. This is a business hotel only!!! Anything else and you will be disappointed.

From the reviews I have read I should have chose the Residence Inn, it is next door.

p.s. The Applebee's across the parking lot comes in handy.

“Beautiful Views of Mountains”

Marriott Courtyard Palm Desert

This is a typical Courtyard property. The rooms, common areas and exterior areas are clean, well kept, and up to date. You get reasonable quality at somewhat reasonable prices. Nothing terribly fancy, but always dependable comfortable surroundings. I especially enjoyed the view from the west facing third floor balcony which afforded nice panoramas of the San Jacinto mountains.

It appears Courtyard has updated the quality of the beds as well. Mine was very soft and comfortable.

I would caution against the Applebees Restaurant next door. I ate there at a time when they were not busy and was seated next to a table of employees, yes employees who were sitting with friends. Another employee carried a baby through the dining area showing her to staff. Perhaps this unprofessional atmosphere is why the service was so slow and the food sub par. This Applebees has obvious management problems.

“Clean and nice”

Marriott Courtyard Palm Desert

Checked in late and left real early, so I didn't get a chance to check out the hotel, but my room was clean and nice. The bedding is top notch, with a very European sytle duvet and a nice mattress pad. The location is just off I-10, but wouldn't take long to drive downtown. There is an Applebee's next door, but other than that, it is kinda out by itself. Most rooms appeared to have a balcony as well. One highway stop away from the Agua Caliente casino too.
